Miranda State Sloth Rescue Suspended

This organization has served as the region's only sloth rescue center, having rescued over 1,000 sloths in recent years.

Fundación Chuwie has faced significant difficulties in its operations due to a lack of access to land for food cultivation.

As a result, volunteers must travel 15 km daily to find food for the sloths, a logistical burden the organization can no longer sustain.

Despite rescue operations involving more than just saving animals but also providing food until their release, government support and official permits remain insufficient.

A representative from Fundación Chuwie explained that rescue work means more than just removing endangered animals from the field.

Essential food supply and protection are required to observe rescued animals and ensure they can safely return to the wild, but current circumstances make these costs unaffordable.

Consequently, due to the absence of incentives, permits, and government support, rescue and intake operations had to be completely suspended.

Fundación Chuwie emphasized that this suspension will remain indefinite until the food crisis is resolved.

The organization maintains that resuming operations is impossible without securing adequate space and the necessary logistical support for wildlife protection.

The current suspension will continue until the situation improves and sustainable care becomes feasible.
