Lee Jong-won's sentence reduced in chair throwing incident

Lee Jong-won vehemently denied hitting anyone with a chair, claiming the video in question was manipulated. He explained that there was a struggle over closing a door, and he merely placed the chair down in front of him as Lee Myung-soo entered while he was trying to secure the door, and the victim was not hit.

"As for the chair, I repeat, I never hit anyone with a chair. I told them to lock the door dozens of times, but the door was open. Why would a stationary door open? As I was trying to lock the door, Lee Myung-soo came in, and that photo was manipulated. In the slow-motion video, I just put it down in front of me, and it didn't hit anyone. Oh, it didn't hit. I slammed it down in front of me, and it bounced sideways, and he just fell down on his own."

Heo Sang-min was sentenced to 4 months in prison and 1 year of probation. Lee Jong-won reported that the judge pointed out Heo's unrepentant attitude and his consistent excuses. Following this ruling, it was announced that civil lawsuits amounting to hundreds of millions of won would be filed against Heo Sang-min, following a 200 million won civil lawsuit filed by Kim Han-mae.

"Heo Sang-min received 4 months in prison with 1 year of probation. Uh, this came out stronger than I expected. The judge saw that there was no sign of remorse and he was consistent with excuses, so everyone, you need to know that serious civil lawsuits are now lined up. Following Kim Han-mae's 200 million won civil lawsuit, we will pursue civil lawsuits against Heo Sang-min, whether it's 300 million or several hundred million won, until the very end."

The Newtamsa presenter raised questions about the lack of proper punishment for Lee Jong-won despite his repeated misconduct. He pointed out, firstly, that the Mapo Police Station did not conduct a proper investigation; secondly, that the prosecution only sought about 1 year in prison for a heinous crime; and thirdly, that the court sentenced him to probation on the grounds that he had no prior similar offenses.

The interlocutor expressed distrust in judicial institutions, recounting his past experience of being a victim of special assault where the perpetrators were only fined 2 million won each. He added that despite ongoing cyberbullying, the case was dismissed at the police stage.

"I was a victim of special assault, wasn't I? Really, my hair was pulled, and it only ended with a 2 million won fine per person."

In the first trial of Lee Jong-won's chair-throwing incident, he was sentenced to 4 months in prison, 1 year of probation, and a 1 million won fine. However, in the second trial, the prison sentence was reduced from 4 months to 2 months. The case is currently pending an appeal before the Supreme Court.

"Lee Myung-soo was actually a major factor in Lee Jong-won receiving that lenient punishment. It seems that Lee Myung-soo came out and gave testimony that was somewhat favorable to Lee Jong-won."

The interlocutor claimed that Lee Jong-won was virtually involved in the group assault against himself and PD Jung Sung-wook at Jeonju University. The Jeonju Wansan Police Station is investigating this group assault case, and he emphasized that if the charges are confirmed based on the investigation results, Lee Jong-won should receive a prison sentence. He also additionally mentioned charges of public opinion manipulation.

"At Jeonju University, he was virtually involved in another group assault targeting me and PD Jung Sung-wook. The Jeonju Wansan Police Station is investigating this group assault, and if the charges are recognized based on the investigation results, I believe he should receive a prison sentence if the law is alive."
