Zelensky's Future Hinges on War Outcome

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remains genuinely popular among Ukrainians due to his leadership during wartime. If elections were to be held presently, there is no doubt that he would secure re-election.

The more significant historical question surrounding Zelenskyy is not his electoral success but how his long-term legacy will be defined, especially as events continue to unfold.

In the opening days of the war, Russian forces deployed a Chechen hit squad to Kyiv with the explicit objective of assassinating President Zelenskyy. This attempt, however, failed to achieve its goal.

The failure of the assassination attempt led to a significant degradation of Chechen forces and paradoxically contributed to Zelenskyy's increased historical notoriety, solidifying his image as a resilient leader.

Ukraine is currently experiencing what could be described as a second revolution in military affairs, characterized by the rapid development and deployment of new technologies.

Under Zelenskyy's watch, a significantly different type of warfare is emerging, involving numerous new technologies. This transformation, often conflated with artificial intelligence, is fundamentally based on the novel use of existing hardware and will historically be credited to his leadership.

In the first scenario, a Russian victory would likely result in Zelenskyy's death, a condition possibly demanded by Russia for improved relations with Europe.

The second possibility is a permanent stalemate, which would define Zelenskyy as the leader who catalyzed a global technological revolution in warfare, given Ukraine's innovations. The third scenario, a decisive Ukrainian victory, would elevate him to the status of the founder of the modern Ukrainian nation and a revered European figure. Historical assessment of his role is still being written and will not be settled in the near future.
