Paul Yun's Testimony: From Addiction to Ministry

Pastor Paul Yun shared that his church is currently undertaking a 40-day 'Teshuvah' prayer meeting, focused on repentance, drawing inspiration from the Book of Ezekiel. He explained that this period has led the congregation to feel a dual experience of their sins being exposed and a deep sense of gratitude for the transformation they are undergoing. The discussion touched upon various addictions, from smoking and alcohol to the most extreme form, narcotics.

Paul Yun stated that narcotics, especially methamphetamine, are addictions that cannot be broken by human strength alone. He observed that even after experiencing God's grace, individuals often find themselves struggling with relapse, indicating the profound grip of these substances. According to Yun, only the transformative power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit can effectively break such deeply entrenched addictions, which he described as spiritual strongholds.

Pastor Yun testified that following his encounter with God, his addictions were completely broken. He clarified that he had never planned or even considered becoming a minister; his path into ministry unfolded naturally as he simply continued to follow God's calling. He articulated that his deep motivation for serving and working in ministry stems from an overwhelming gratitude for being rescued from a destructive path that he believed was leading to hell.

Paul Yun expressed his view of South Korea's current situation not merely through a political lens but primarily as a spiritual battle. He asserted that in these 'end times,' the church has a crucial role to play in declaring God's justice against prevalent wickedness. He drew parallels between the contemporary duty of spiritual messengers and the prophetic roles of biblical figures such as Jeremiah, Elijah, and John the Baptist, emphasizing that those who understand the 'end times' theology cannot remain silent.

Pastor Yun strongly criticized the common argument that the church should not interfere with politics, labeling such a stance as foolish or, if deliberate, cowardly. He argued that individuals who are aware of the truth but choose to remain silent on public matters are acting as cowards. Yun further emphasized that his passion for the nation is not merely his own personal sentiment but a profound burden he feels has been divinely placed upon him by God, compelling him to speak out.

Drawing parallels to the biblical eras of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, Paul Yun highlighted that divine judgment often commences within the church itself. He warned that many churches today are failing to fulfill their spiritual responsibilities, comparing them to the 'dumb dogs' mentioned in the Book of Isaiah, who are unable to bark and warn of danger. Yun referenced the biblical admonition against allowing the temple, a sacred space, to become a 'den of thieves,' implying that churches that compromise or remain silent on righteousness deviate from their true purpose. He underscored that such failures in leadership invite divine scrutiny, indicating that accountability begins with those who are called to lead God's people.
