YouTube's View Count Inflation Explained
Following the August 27th update to how the platform defines a view, total counts across YouTube surged, with many creators seeing their metrics double or triple within 24 hours.
Analysis of 100 channels revealed that total view counts frequently doubled or tripled within the first 24 hours following the update.
Approximately 54% of current total views are now categorized as 'engaged views,' indicating that nearly half of all views may not represent active viewer engagement, especially for creators focusing on long-form content.
