Farage: Burnham's EU Stance Ensures Labour Loss

Andy Burnham advocates for exploring future relations with Europe and suggests a potential rejoining of the political union.

Burnham argued that the past decade, heavily influenced by Brexit, has not been beneficial and has, in his honest assessment, caused harm.

Nigel Farage pointed to Burnham's May 18th remarks in Makerfield, where he explicitly opposed rejoining the EU, contrasting them with his current openness.

Farage accused Burnham of flip-flopping from a firm 'no' on rejoining to now putting EU membership back on the table, describing it as Burnham finally showing his true colors.

Rejoining the EU would, in Farage's view, contradict Burnham's pro-devolution stance by centralizing power and prevent policies like VAT cuts on electricity.

Farage declared that this position ensures Burnham will 'lose the next election' and believes there will be no need to fight another Brexit referendum because of this route, viewing a new referendum as a highly divisive issue.

He highlighted ignored concerns such as a potential 20 billion pound annual membership fee for rejoining, along with regulatory constraints and limitations on VAT.

Despite this disappointment, Farage contends that voters would likely reject the substantial costs and conditions of rejoining the EU, including a potential £25 billion annual contribution, Schengen membership, and Euro adoption.

Farage rejected the idea that voters connect Brexit with the COVID pandemic or current inflation, stating his genuine disbelief in such an association.

He supported this by noting that, despite abysmal growth in the UK, it currently surpasses that of France, Germany, Italy, the Eurozone, and the EU as a whole, pointing to service sector business growth with the rest of the world as evidence.

Farage criticized Burnham's speech as unrepresentative of Labour's upcoming manifesto and highlighted critical national issues, including 30-year bonds trading at 6% (the highest since 1998) and Channel crossings.

Predicting a general election in May next year, Farage outlined several Reform Party pledges for the first 100 days: stopping small boats, cutting energy bills by £250, increasing the tax threshold to £15,000 to benefit 40 million people.

Additionally, the party plans to eliminate what it calls 'useless university degrees' and reallocate funding to apprenticeships, with Farage vowing to sack ministers if these commitments are not met within the specified timeframe.
