around the world. That's normally an opportunity for heads of state to come. And I think it'll be a great opportunity to show off Britain at its very best with a brilliant city in Manchester. But I think we need to be aware that some of the things that people have tweeted in

the past and indeed can tweet today don't always reflect the position uh exactly where we need to be. And I think it's okay for leaders of democracies, as we have here, to occasionally disagree with one another, to take different positions, but still be absolutely

stuff he'd say about the Taliban. It's not just, you know, off the bat comments calling him nasty names. This is a quite a, you know, serious accusation here. So, what I want to know is what's changed from the prime minister's position from 2017 to today. Is it just

that you say whatever it it takes to stay in power, to be friends with the president of the United States, or is this gen genuinely a change of heart? >> No, I think I mean your viewers will know that quite a lot has changed since 2017. The world has become darker. We've

The uh the individuals involved have changed roles a number of times during that position. Politics has changed. But what hasn't changed is the importance of a strong UK US special relationship. Now I take the view that it's okay to disagree. I think that is GB News's

position on political debate as well. Um but I do want us to make sure that when we are focusing on the areas where we disagree, we also have a firm focus on the many many more areas where we do share common ground, where we do agree and the US and the uh and the UK share

that common perspective on defense and security. As a defense minister, I see it every day with our brilliant armed forces working hand in hand with their American colleagues and colleagues across the NATO alliance and further field, not only to keep our country

safe, but to keep our allies safe in a more dangerous world. That's what much of the conversation will be about between those leaders today. And it will build on the conversations that Andy Bernham has had with Donald Trump a number of times since taking office uh

on the phone. Amid these concerns about

our defense secretary? Where is Wes Streeting? Have you seen him recently or has he gone awall? Yeah, I he was in the office yesterday when I was in the office. Uh he's continuing uh to work. He set out uh a a really clear statement to parliament

only 10 days ago. Uh setting out the risk of Russia uh to not only to United Kingdom but to our allies. Being clear that we need to be alert but not alarmed to it. But also being absolutely clear and something that I suspect every one of your viewers would agree with that

the United Kingdom will defend every single inch of NATO territory from attack wherever that may come from. And that is why we've seen uh since Wes Streeting became defense secretary, not only the deployment of our forces against uh air and missiles attacks in

the Middle East, but also the agreement with Saudi Arabia yesterday, the further support for our friends in Ukraine and a number of announcements about working more closely with our international allies, including our partners in the United States. Uh I've been really

impressed with the way that Wes has got stuck in over the last uh few weeks since he's become defense secretary. And certainly as a uh as the one of the longest uh standing uh defense ministers that we have in government, I'm absolutely convinced that from what I

saw from John Healey before him, a a someone committed to increasing defense spending, spending more of it with British businesses, making sure that increased defense spending creates good jobs in our country, as well as giving the brilliant men and women of our armed
