High Earners Living Paycheck to Paycheck Due to Lifestyle Creep
A recent annual survey by Goldman Sachs reveals that 40% of workers earning over $300,000 annually find themselves living paycheck to paycheck.
This phenomenon is primarily attributed to "lifestyle creep," where an increase in income leads to a corresponding rise in spending, making it challenging for individuals to save or manage their finances effectively.
Kerry Hannon from Yahoo Finance explained that psychological pressure often drives high-income individuals to maintain an expensive lifestyle, causing their expenses to escalate alongside their earnings. The survey also identified a "U-shaped" distribution of financial insecurity, with those earning between $100,000 and $300,000 reporting greater financial stability than both lower and higher income brackets.
