Rep. Moon Jeong-bok Accused of Interfering in Proportional Representation Nominations

Rep. Moon Jeong-bok, former Supreme Council member, is suspected of intervening in the Gyeonggi Provincial proportional representation nominations ahead of the local elections. Rep. Moon is known to have opened a group chat with approximately 770 members and posted messages in it supporting a specific candidate.

Critics argue that these actions undermine the fairness of the nominations and may violate election law.

In the group chat opened by Rep. Moon Jeong-bok, there was an explicit request for support for Kim Kyung-sook, a candidate for proportional representation in Gyeonggi Province. Rep. Moon posted an announcement in the chat saying, "Hello. This is Rep. Moon Jeong-bok. This chat is to help Kim Kyung-sook, a candidate for proportional representation in Gyeonggi Province from Siheung. Please stay in the chat, even if it's bothersome. Please help Kim Kyung-sook, the true farmer and Gyeonggi Provincial proportional representation candidate. Thank you."

This announcement encouraged party members with voting rights to participate in voting for Kim Kyung-sook and to remain in the group chat.

Candidate Kim Kyung-sook, supported by Rep. Moon Jeong-bok, was confirmed as 3rd place in the women's general section of the Gyeonggi Provincial proportional representation, securing a safe spot for election. However, the situation reversed after her nomination was confirmed, when issues of dual party membership arose.

It appears that Kim Kyung-sook's dual party membership issue was discovered during the election commission's candidate registration process, raising the possibility that she held membership in the Rebuilding Korea Party.

Critics suggest that Rep. Moon Jeong-bok's actions could lead to not only party disciplinary action but also violations of election law. Mobilizing party members with voting rights to support a specific candidate may be a violation of current law.

According to reports, Rep. Moon allegedly opened several other group chats and posted similar announcements, and there is also evidence that the number of participants in some of these chats has decreased.
