Northern Border Patrol Needs More Agents to Close the Gap
With only 300 agents currently assigned to the Swanton sector, Chief Robert Garcia warns that technology cannot replicate the physical interdiction capabilities provided by human presence.
While technology provides situational awareness, it cannot replace agents who physically intercept smuggling attempts, especially given the northern border's lack of extensive infrastructure compared to the southern border.
Success in securing any U.S. border, whether coastal, southern, or northern, is ultimately defined by the physical presence of Border Patrol agents on the ground, roads, water, and air, according to Chief Garcia.
"We got about 300 agents here. And as far as what we need, we always need more resources. Uh when it comes to securing the border at any of our border, whether it's coastal, southern, or the northern border, it's the Border Patrol agent that closes the gap."
"those agents to get out there and touch"
