Arch Manning apologizes for laughing at ESPN reporter deepfake
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian walked away from ESPN reporter Holly Row during a postgame interview following the team's win against Ohio State. The moment itself drew limited attention until the internet generated a fake video showing Sarkisian slapping Row.
At a press conference, backup quarterback Arch Manning laughed at the artificial-intelligence video and called it 'hilarious.' The remark prompted an apology posted to Instagram: 'There's nothing funny about it. I know my words and actions were hurtful for a lot of people.'
The story escalated rapidly to ABC's World News Tonight despite no actual violence having occurred. Host Jonathan Shuttlesworth argued the incident reflected media outlets using the moment to 'peacock' moral superiority over a college student rather than examining real behavioral issues in sports.
All of that cuz a college kid laughed at an AI video. And now some are saying, 'Okay, he's apologized, but not good enough.'
