US AI Slowdown Dilemma... "Fear of Falling Behind China"

If US companies slow down development, Chinese companies like DeepSeek could rapidly close the gap. Currently, the US is reportedly about a year ahead of China in AI technology. There is skepticism among companies that they cannot hit the brakes alone when competitors are moving ahead.

Discussions about AI risks are focusing on preventing actual dangers beyond extreme scenarios like human extinction. Realistically, discussions are expected to converge on placing common safeguards on AI capabilities that could cause significant harm to humanity, such as nuclear weapons, biological weapons development, or large-scale hacking, rather than halting AI development itself. Maintaining control over AI models is also a key discussion point.

This remark is interpreted as a strategic statement ahead of the US-China summit on the 24th. If produced in the US, Chinese car companies would be able to avoid the high tariffs previously imposed.

This figure includes general tariffs plus additional tariffs imposed by the US in response to what it considers unfair trade. Furthermore, the US Department of Commerce enforces regulations prohibiting the sale of vehicles equipped with Chinese software and communication equipment. As a result, vehicles with Chinese components, such as Huawei, may be restricted from sale in the US market, even if they are made in Korea or Germany.

The US automotive industry strongly opposes the entry of Chinese car companies into the US market. Last month, the Alliance for Auto Innovation, which includes General Motors (GM) and Ford, urged the US Congress to pass legislation by the end of the year to prevent Chinese companies from entering the market. They are wary of Chinese cars already increasing their market share in Europe and fear that if local production is allowed, China's high cost competitiveness could threaten the US market.

Industry experts believe that the entry of Chinese cars into the US market would hit Hyundai Motor Group the hardest. This is because the US is currently Hyundai Motor Group's largest sales market, where it holds the 4th largest market share. In particular, Hyundai's main models, such as Kona, Tucson, and EV3, overlap with key Chinese car models, leading to direct competition. The high cost competitiveness of Chinese cars is likely to exert price pressure on Hyundai in the US market.

Conversely, the US large SUV and pickup truck markets are less likely to be affected, as they differ from China's main car types. In the electric vehicle market, analysis suggests that Chinese cars, with their value-for-money and design competitiveness, could threaten Hyundai's market share.

EREVs are driven by electric motors, but they can extend their range by having an internal combustion engine charge the battery. China is considered ahead in this field, having launched a wider variety of EREV models than Korea.

This significantly expands the number of tradable stocks compared to the previous Nextrade system, enabling trading for most listed stocks. However, suspended or administrative stocks are excluded from trading.

This is reportedly due to concerns that they could increase market volatility.

The goal is to create an environment where stocks can be bought and sold at any time, beyond a 12-hour trading system. However, considering the burden of system development and concerns about stability, trading hours will be gradually extended.
