Even sympathetic colleagues reportedly feared public defense of Cuddy due to concerns about retaliation, indicating a chilling effect within the scientific discourse. This pervasive pressure ultimately led to her departure from Harvard before she could achieve tenure. Cuddy lamented, "Science didn't interrogate itself. It stopped itself. And it silenced a scientist."

The sustained bullying campaign inflicted severe health impacts and led to suicidal ideation for Amy Cuddy. She described the experience as a "public spectacle of shame" coupled with the "erasure" of her identity, highlighting the profound psychological toll. Cuddy shared, "I tried to take my own life twice, because this kind of bullying is simultaneously this horrible public spectacle of shame where you're in a spotlight. And at the same time, it's a total erasure of who you are and what you've done." She expressed a message of validation for others who have been targets of similar bullying tactics.
