Mokpo Politicians Make Their Move for General Election

They mentioned that these individuals are showing approaches that do not fit the current political situation, unlike in the past, and criticized that this is harming the unity of the democratic camp.

In particular, the host expressed deep concern about Mokpo's political situation, stating, "How will we change Mokpo, which Kim Won-yi has ruined?" This is interpreted as reflecting a critical view of internal conflicts within Mokpo's democratic camp and the political actions of a specific individual.

Former Assembly member Son Hye-won strongly argued that the political sphere should no longer reproduce the statements of certain influencers. She believed that their remarks instead cloud the political landscape and exacerbate confusion.

Former Assembly member Son defined such remarks as information to be dismissed like malicious comments, emphasizing that quoting their words in political debates should stop. This suggests the need for a strategic change in the political sphere and a new approach to forming healthy discourse.

Former Assembly member Son Hye-won urged a fundamental change in the current political discourse. She emphasized moving away from unproductive debates centered on ridicule and criticism, and instead pursuing political struggles in a more constructive and productive manner.

She argued that beyond mere criticism, it is necessary to shift the political paradigm itself to initiate discussions that can lead to tangible change. This underscores the need for a new approach that can give hope to the public and enhance political efficacy.

Former Assembly member Son Hye-won emphasized the importance of Mokpo City Councilors demonstrating what they actually do for citizens on the ground. She cited practical roles like assisting elderly pedestrians as a specific on-site example, stressing that such small acts of service and practice can profoundly resonate with citizens.

In particular, former Assembly member Son said, "Ah, this is what a city councilor should do, and we can do that with our bodies," emphasizing the importance of hands-on, on-site politics rather than politics for show. This conveys the message that politicians should build trust by providing tangible help at the point of contact with citizens.

Former Assembly member Son Hye-won positively assessed the current party leader election process. She noted the success of the party's democratic procedures, stating, "We successfully elected our desired party leader, didn't we?"

She also emphasized the principle of excluding partiality, in contrast to the Yoon Suk Yeol government, and expressed the stance that a cautious approach is needed regarding internal personnel matters within the party. This suggests the importance of strengthening internal capabilities for stable party operation and restoring public trust.

The speaker announced that if Representative Kim Won-yi wins the Democratic Party primary and runs again in the next general election, they would resign from their current city council position and register as an independent candidate for the National Assembly to challenge Representative Kim Won-yi. This statement reaffirmed a pledge made during the last local election.

They defined this decision as a 'fair competition against cowardice,' expressing a strong will to bring a new breeze to Mokpo politics. This can be interpreted as a challenge to the existing political order and a promise to offer Mokpo citizens a better choice.

The frustration and sense of loss among citizens were vividly conveyed through on-site voices such as, "People say that since the medical school failed, even fewer people are moving around."

They added that criticism of Representative Kim Won-yi is intensifying among citizens. This shows how the failure to attract a medical school is attributed to a specific politician, and it is expected to have a significant impact on the upcoming general election.

She mentioned that actions like revealing her true self during assembly activities require courage as a first-term member, and she displayed a willingness to speak and act according to her convictions.

Assembly member Jang Ga-young stated that she currently has no specific plans for the next election. This is interpreted as her intention to focus on her current role and take time for political growth.

She stated, "In any case, improving this poor medical environment is the ultimate goal," underscoring that attracting a medical school is essential for enhancing the quality of life for local residents.

She also expressed hope for positive change in Mokpo through the revitalization of the tourism industry. She presented a vision to promote Mokpo's development through the twin pillars of healthcare and tourism, demonstrating her commitment to revitalizing the regional economy and enhancing resident welfare.

The host defined President Lee Jae-myung's politics as a way to provide citizens with political efficacy through achievements and changes in their lives. He assessed that President Lee Jae-myung grew through policy achievements since his time as Seongnam mayor, and analyzed that he instilled confidence in citizens that their vote could change their lives.

In contrast, Kim Eo-jun's approach was criticized for treating politics as a mere matter of political engineering. The host emphasized that politics should focus on its essential role of changing citizens' lives, and argued for reflecting on the true meaning of politics beyond simple calculations of advantage and disadvantage.

Despite being an instance where the president offered great hope to Honam, its achievements are being overshadowed by political strife.

He mentioned that even significant national achievements, like repaying all IMF debt, are not getting any attention due to political engineering. The host emphasized the need for more reporting on positive news that brings real change to citizens' lives and expressed regret regarding the role of the media.

The speaker analyzed that the current democratic-progressive camp's approval ratings have declined due to internal divisions. He diagnosed the problem as the Democratic Party's approval rating being only 50%, with the remaining forces split into two factions.

To overcome this division and recover approval ratings, he emphasized the need for a vision that instills new hope in citizens – one where the pan-progressive camp, including President Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party, and Professor Cho Kuk's new party, can unite to change citizens' lives, rather than relying on a political engineering approach. This suggests that genuine politics and concern for the public's lives are key to recovering approval ratings.
