9/11 Mastermind's Confession Tossed

A military judge has declared the 2007 FBI confession of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, inadmissible for his trial scheduled in 2028. This ruling comes just days before the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Stroughn, the presiding judge, determined that the confession was tainted because Mohammed had been subjected to waterboarding and torture while in CIA custody prior to his FBI interrogation.

This persistent influence undermined the voluntariness of Mohammed's statements.

Furthermore, the judge found that the FBI intentionally failed to inform Mohammed of his right to remain silent and to consult a lawyer, as well as the fact that anything he confessed could be used against him in court. These procedural failures extend the inadmissibility to his 2007 interrogations at Guantanamo Bay.

During that hearing, he stated his role clearly, acknowledging his comprehensive involvement.

Mohammed identified himself as the operational director for Osama bin Laden, taking credit for organizing, planning, follow-up, and execution of the 9/11 attacks from start to finish.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed also provided details about the original scope of the 9/11 attack plan, which was significantly more ambitious than what was eventually executed.

He revealed that the initial plot involved using 10 planes for two separate attacks on both the East and West Coasts of America, but Osama bin Laden ultimately scaled down the operation to four planes targeting one coast.

The social media platform X conducted an investigation into inauthentic accounts linked to Chinese influence operations, uncovering a vast network aimed at manipulating public discourse in the U.S.

The investigation identified a network of 200,000 accounts, including 200 specifically dedicated to spreading anti-data center content, with the overarching goal of influencing American debates on AI and energy policy.

The identified bot farm actively spread misinformation, claiming that AI data centers were responsible for driving up household electricity prices and straining the national power grid. These posts sought to incite public opposition to AI infrastructure development.

To amplify their message, the bot farm utilized AI-generated cartoons depicting data center operators as exploitative figures. This tactic highlights attempts by foreign entities to influence domestic American policy debates through deceptive means.

This influence is particularly evident in controversial topics like data center proposals, which frequently spark community outrage.
