Pittington Villagers Hold Symbolic Referendum Against Asylum Housing Plan
The protest directly targets a plan to accommodate 1,250 male asylum seekers in a facility near the village. This proposed influx is significantly disproportionate to Pittington's existing population of just 350 residents, raising immediate concerns among the community.
"Well, people in the village are voting in a symbolic independence referendum today in protest at the government's proposals," a news anchor reported.
