Dershowitz Ends Seven Decades as a Democrat, Joins GOP

Alan Dershowitz declared his transition to a full-fledged Republican, marking the end of his long-standing affiliation with the Democratic Party. His decision came after receiving a public endorsement from Donald Trump for his new book, signaling a significant shift in his political alignment. Dershowitz stated the Democratic Party has moved too far to the left, which he believes no longer represents his values.

He also expressed concern over the party's handling of America's alliance with Israel, an issue he considers critical. "I’m now a full-fledged Republican," Dershowitz affirmed, solidifying his new political identity.

He believes the book's success will signal voter discontent, sending a clear message to the Democratic leadership. He stated that the party is undercutting American interests by moving too far to the left.

"It will send a message to the Democrats that you can't be doing what you're doing. You can't be undercutting America. You can't be moving so far to the left," Dershowitz said, emphasizing the need for a course correction.

Dershowitz expressed strong opposition to certain individuals potentially chairing congressional committees under current Democratic leadership. He specifically named figures such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), Elizabeth Warren, and a new Senate candidate, El Say, as examples of those whose leadership he would view critically. He warned against individuals who associate with anti-American or anti-Israel sentiments, citing El Say's reported connections to someone who believes America deserved 9/11 and Israel deserved October 7th.

"Can you imagine AOC being chairman of a committee or or Liz Warren being chairman of the committee or the new guy who might get elected to the Senate, El Say who pals around with somebody who thinks America deserved 9/11 and Israel deserved October 7th," Dershowitz stated, viewing these figures as representative of values that oppose his own.

Dershowitz argued that the Democratic Party has abandoned its working-class roots, transforming into an elite party dominated by extreme leftists and socialists. He claims there is no such thing as 'democratic socialists,' asserting that if someone is a socialist, they do not believe in democracy. This ideological shift, according to Dershowitz, represents a significant departure from the party's historical foundations.

"Now the Democrats are an elite party of extreme leftists, socialists. And there's no such thing, by the way, as democratic socialists. If you're a socialist, you don't believe in democracy," Dershowitz explained, highlighting what he perceives as a contradiction in terms.

Dershowitz criticized modern universities for fostering radical political ideologies, drawing parallels between current student activism and historical movements that empowered authoritarian figures. He compared the current 'Palestinianism' movement led by college students to past instances where students brought figures like Castro, Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot to power. He asserted that college students are currently leading the 'Palestinianism' movement, and he criticized the intellectual climate within modern universities.

"We forget that the people who brought Castro to power are college students. The people who brought Stalin and Hitler to power and Paul Pot to power were college students," Dershowitz stated, asserting that the intellectual climate within modern universities contributes to political extremism.

He pointed to the rejection of statehood offers and the rise of Hamas in Gaza as evidence supporting his claim. Dershowitz argued that Hamas values are fundamentally incompatible with democratic principles, contributing to his view of the movement as disingenuous.

"Palestinianism is the phoniest human rights issue in the history of the world. There's never been a phonier human rights issue," Dershowitz declared, underscoring his critical perspective.

He emphasized Israel's critical role as the only democracy in the Middle East and a vital ally to America, providing significant technological and intelligence benefits. He expressed opposition to current efforts by some Democrats to cut aid to Israel.

"Because Israel is the nation state of the Jewish people and because there's a long history of anti-semitism throughout the world, it was easy for Democrats to turn against Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East and the only ally of America," Dershowitz argued, connecting the party's shift to historical prejudices.
