Tupac's Alleged Killer Duane 'Keefe D' Davis on Trial Nearly 30 Years After Rapper's Death

Despite the shooting occurring in Las Vegas, a city known for its extensive surveillance capabilities, the investigation remained open for a significant period. Alex Stein highlighted the long-awaited nature of this legal action, stating, "this guy uh uh Dwayne Davis, he is being charged with the murder of Tupac."

The charging of Davis marks a pivotal moment in a case that has captivated the public and music industry for nearly 30 years, finally bringing a suspect to trial after decades of speculation and investigative efforts.

The officer explained that he urged Tupac to disclose the names of those responsible for the attack. However, Tupac reportedly refused to cooperate or provide any further information to the police.

The officer recounted his attempts, stating, "I was trying to uh convince him to tell me the name of whoever his asalants were. ... I couldn't get him to talk to me any further than that."

In a pivotal moment of testimony, the police officer revealed Tupac's final response regarding his attackers: "No, we'll take care of it. Something like that." This refusal to cooperate with law enforcement and the statement about taking care of it himself suggest a preference for vigilante justice, a theme often present in the gangster rap culture Tupac was associated with. It is widely speculated that Tupac likely knew who was responsible for the shooting, given his immediate and definitive response.

His statement indicates a deeply ingrained code within certain communities to handle disputes internally rather than relying on external authorities, shedding light on the complexities of the investigation and the victim's immediate mindset.

She pondered, "Maybe Tupac didn't think he was going to die." This theory is supported by the fact that Tupac had previously survived being shot five times, which might have led him to believe he was resilient enough to recover again.

There is also speculation that if Tupac had known he was fatally wounded, he might have chosen to speak to the police, but his past experiences could have led him to underestimate the severity of his injuries.

She testified about hearing gunshots as she was in the process of removing her seatbelt, indicating the rapid and unexpected nature of the attack. In a moment of panic, the witness screamed, "I freak out and I scream, 'What the heck? He help.' ... I grab her head to bring her down. And I was like, 'What the going on?'"

The witness quickly grabbed the driver's head to push her down for safety, and the car was then put into drive to flee the scene, highlighting the immediate and frantic efforts to escape the deadly situation.

The trial of Duane "Keefe D" Davis is finally taking place nearly three decades after Tupac Shakur's assassination. Alex Stein emphasized the significant time lapse, noting, "this case is 30 years past the assassination of of Tupac, and we're just now having a court case, and this Dwayne Davis guy is uh allegedly involved." Davis is the primary suspect in the long-unsolved murder, bringing the case to a critical juncture after years of dormancy.

The legal proceedings involve complex connections within the music industry, adding layers of intrigue and difficulty to an already high-profile and historical criminal case.

Puff Daddy, also known as P. Diddy, is being considered as a potential witness in the trial, reportedly due to his ties to Biggie Smalls' crew. Alex Stein highlighted this connection, stating, "one of the people that they're trying to call as a witness is Puff Daddy because Puff Daddy was part of Biggie Smalls crew and that there is a connection through Dwayne Davis and Puff Daddy allegedly." Rumors have long persisted about P. Diddy's potential involvement in Biggie Smalls' death, linking these two high-profile cases within the music industry and raising questions about broader conspiracies.

The situation draws comparisons to O.J. Simpson's controversial book, "If I Did It," where a defendant seemingly implicates themselves, creating a challenging legal predicament for their defense.

The prosecution must now contend with Keefe D changing his story, which complicates the use of his prior statements as evidence, making it difficult to establish a consistent narrative for the jury.

The core contradiction in Duane "Keefe D" Davis's defense is his lawyer's claim that Davis's memoir, which previously placed him in the car as an accomplice to Tupac's murder, is full of lies. Alex Stein articulated this, stating, "in his memoir admitted that he was in the car and was at least an accomplice to Tupac's murder. And so now he's trying to get his his client off on a murder charge by saying that his client was lying in the book." The defense is essentially arguing that while the book was false, Davis's current testimony, denying involvement, is true.

This strategy presents a significant challenge for the jury: how can they believe a defendant who has offered two conflicting narratives, one in a published book and another in court? The hosts underscored the difficulty in trusting a defendant who openly admits to fabricating past statements, creating a credibility crisis for the defense.
