Israeli Ambassador Slams Gaza Film 'NAZA' as 'Propaganda'

Hamas has formally requested that the International Criminal Court (ICC), the United Nations, and various human rights organizations initiate investigations into Israel based on the allegations presented in the documentary 'NAZA.' The group's call for international inquiry cited the film's prominent reception at the Venice International Film Festival as justification for its claims. Hamas suggested that the film’s content warranted a thorough examination of Israel's military conduct in Gaza.

The documentary, 'NAZA,' received a remarkable 25-minute standing ovation at its Venice Film Festival premiere, highlighting its significant impact. Following this reception, several Israeli ministers have suggested severe repercussions for the two Israeli directors of the film, including proposals to revoke their citizenship. This domestic backlash reflects the controversial nature of the film's content within Israel.

She criticized the documentary for its reliance on anonymous sources, questioning their backgrounds and records. Hotovely specifically noted the absence of dates for events mentioned in the film, characterizing it as a 'blood libel' against the brave soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Ambassador Hotovely contended that the film fails to provide essential context regarding the conflict, particularly by not mentioning Hamas's tactics. She accused Hamas of using children and civilians as human shields, a crucial detail that she claims is absent from the documentary. The ambassador concluded that this omission indicates a clear agenda and suggests the film is based on falsehoods rather than facts.

She emphasized that every military strike decision is made by humans, with careful consideration and in consultation with legal advisors, in accordance with international law. Hotovely cited Israel's current casualty ratio in Gaza as one terrorist to 1.5 civilians, which she contrasts with the typical Western military standard of 2.5 civilians per terrorist strike. Ambassador Hotovely criticized Labour MP Taher Ali's suggestion that the UK consider military action against Israel, labeling it as a form of 'appeasement' policy. She views such statements as primarily driven by domestic politics, aimed at satisfying radical elements within Ali's party. Hotovely emphasized the vital intelligence sharing relationship between Israel and UK agencies like MI5 and MI6, suggesting that proposals for military action undermine crucial security cooperation.

Ambassador Hotovely warned that a hostile shift in UK-Israel relations would have significant negative consequences for the United Kingdom and its Jewish community. She argued that maintaining the alliance with Israel is in the UK's strategic interest. Hotovely cautioned that if the UK were to adopt a hostile stance, it would incur substantial losses and would likely contribute to a rise in antisemitism within the UK.
