US Urges Hard Line on China AI, Military Support

and I would say kind of a putting a flare up as warning to the commander-in-chief. Can you walk us through it, sir? >> Well, first of all, these are important meetings and President Trump, as you know, is a very good negotiator. He's very hospitable and he's someone who

wants to welcome leaders. It could be the mayor of New York. It could be the, you know, leader of China. And he's very focused on different things for him. I know the economy is a big aspect and and he's certainly been successful getting China to fulfill some

of their commitments with agriculture purchases and some of the things they've already committed to, but there's a lot at stake. There's a question about Iran, Russia, and clearly China is propping up the Iranian and Russian regimes and there's been recent information about

helping them Iran target American troops. And and so I think the president needs to set some clear boundaries and have consequences for some of these behaviors that we see China exhibiting, whether it's unfair trade or you know, participating in these malign

acts. And and I'm confident the president is up to the task. >> Congressman, you you you get into a kind of artificial intelligence and there's a huge I would say discussion going on behind the scenes as we get set and of course the AI executives are going to show up

this week. But this concept of distillation, which is really another attempt of the Chinese Communist Party to steal our intellectual property in addition Politico had a huge article today about Jensen Huang and the whole issue of compute. So you got compute and you've

area of artificial intelligence? If you break those two component pieces down, where do you guys stand right now? >> Well, where we stand is we believe it's important that China does not gain leverage in the AI race. And right now in the United States, uh,

Nvidia, other, uh, companies have a lead in terms of the technology and the overall compute capabilities. And we want to make sure we continue that and actually grow that lead. Um, the private sector's at a, you know, a place where they have

to be responsible to their shareholders. So, Jensen Huang's job, in his mind, is to sell chips. And he would like to sell chips more and more to China. And this is where you get the, uh, division between national security and market economy because we aren't dealing with

a, uh, business-to-business kinds of tracks at transaction. These are, uh, state actors in the case of China, uh, whose goal is to use this technology, uh, to dominate and actually use for military purposes as well. So, when it comes to distillation, uh,

stealing our technologies from a distance or, uh, stealing technologies through, uh, you can have, uh, smuggling technologies through third, uh, parties. And we want to make sure that we have tight, uh, boundaries for these advanced technologies where the United States

leads and make sure China doesn't have access to those technologies that could eventually be used against our men and women. >> Congressman, uh, uh, uh, in as advising the president coming off the select committee, given that we have these major strategic

issues with them about artificial

to accomplish this week where all the leaders and the AI tech executives are all essentially under one roof? >> Well, in my view, the president is really speaking for Americans, our national security, and uh there needs to be very frank discussions with Xi

Jinping about what is not acceptable. It's not acceptable for Chinese businesses to be helping to target American troops. Just like it wasn't acceptable for Chinese businesses to be manufacturing precursor chemicals that would be used for fentanyl that would

destroy the lives of many Americans. And President Trump took the initiative on that, put a tariff right out of the gate, and said, "No more fentanyl coming uh from China." And uh we need that kind of uh force and uh strength from President Trump when it comes to how uh

Iran is benefiting from China buying their oil, supplying uh equipment that they use militarily, and uh these kinds of technologies that advance

those priorities very clear. There certainly can be other discussions about AI, but I don't expect some big grand bargain on AI. The bottom line is China wants to win this race and they are going to do everything they can to either buy our technology, steal our

technology, scale it up and leverage it against us just like they have critical minerals in a way that creates a dependency on China. >> Congressman, we're going to push this letter out because I don't think it's gotten enough um, media coverage. But when you read this

letter and you go through it's three pages long, you go through the each paragraph, each paragraph is so serious in it of itself of America uh, in the in the year 2026. What is what's the direction the committee your select committee is going to take and

what can everyone do to make sure that this is more on the front burner? To me, this should be a major election issue. People should be talking about this in town halls, we should have debates about this, discussions about it, etc. So, where is the committee select committee

sure that everybody is worried because obviously the mainstream media is not covering this as much as it should, sir. >> You know, I think the key for America is to lessen our dependence on China. We viewed China as a neutral uh, player when it came to our economic

relationships and we've seen how they will leverage those technologies. You know, we used to be able to manufacture all sorts of drones. Suddenly China has the market of drones and are driving uh, companies out of business. Trains, uh, you look at all these different

technologies. Connected vehicles are the next line in the sand where we cannot allow China to to use unfair trade practices and drive our auto businesses out of business. Robots are coming right down the pike and we need to make sure we have policies that protect our national

security as well as our economic security because they do not play by the rules. So, we've been focusing on some of these actually import kinds of things. You know, when you think of the outbound investment, inbound investment, China would love to dominate some more

industries and we need to be vigilant and we need the American people support in preventing this from happening.
