For 15-year mortgages, the national average climbed from 2.32% to 6.70% over five years, as Jim Cramer observed that 7.5% rates have crippled liquidity and pushed affordability to a four-decade low.
The national average for a 15-year mortgage increased from 2.32% to 6.70% over the last five years, while the 30-year mortgage rose from 3% to 7.34% in the same period.
Existing homeowners are locked into lower-rate mortgages, which makes moving to a new property financially prohibitive given today's higher rates.
