Nuance in German political shifts: Voters see right-wing as a 'lifeboat'
While acknowledging past pro-Nazi and racist rhetoric from some leaders of Germany's right-wing parties, the average voter's motivation differs from the party management. Many citizens who elect these parties, and indeed many within the parties themselves, are not necessarily aligned with such extremist views.
Instead, voters perceive these parties as the only viable option, a 'lifeboat' for a Germany they believe is currently 'drowning,' seeking rescue from pressing issues.
