He described a decade-long period since being freed from crack cocaine addiction in October, emphasizing that fear was a foundational element throughout his struggles. His experiences range from cartel shootouts to Antifa attacks, illustrating the intense challenges he has faced.
The book not only shares his raw story of addiction, a double life, faith, and marital restoration but also incorporates QR codes that link readers to actual video footage of the events described. Bergquam noted that before his recovery, he was at a point in his life where he faced the grim possibilities of either imprisonment or death.
He stated, "Look, everything in my life has had at its foundation a high degree of fear. Whether as an addict I was an addict 10 years ago. I was set free in in October 10 years ago, back put back on this journey. I was at a place in my life where I was either going to end up in prison or dead."
