Tristan Tong remarked that "the entire structure or uh US policy toward East Asia or especially on South Korea has not significant change. We have not seen a relatively large force reduction in the Korean peninsula."

Bryce highlighted, "Japan's a really good example outside of like the pure military bean counting sort of like force on force. Uh one Japan's signed an increased number of gizomia agreements... I think you're starting to see more industrialbased cooperation."

This includes increased GSOMIA (General Security of Military Information Agreement) agreements with countries such as Australia, Korea, and the Philippines. Furthermore, industrial cooperation, such as the potential sale of Mogami-class warships, and deepening diplomatic and defense ties with the Philippines, position Japan as a leading 'middle power' in regional security.

Colby refutes the narrative of US disengagement, stating, "What the commentary frequently misinterprets as disengagement or retrenchment is in reality a disciplined and necessary strategic prioritization. Implementing deeper military coordination between the US and regional militaries presents operational challenges that are now being addressed. For example, Tristan noted, "for example for Taiwan um there are some reporting that there are joint fire uh joint fire coordination center established in Taiwan's M&D with our US uh advisers. So it is very important because uh Taiwan has not have this kind of deep tied uh engagement or cooperation with US military."

This initiative highlights the need for more profound, structural military-to-military engagement to overcome historical limitations in bilateral defense cooperation and ensure effective responses to contingencies.

The renaming of the Pacific Command to the Indo-Pacific Command in 2018 carried significant strategic implications. Tristan explained, "The reason main reason one of the main reason behind that is uh when at that time the Trump administration 1.0 want to promote the Indopacific strategy. So of course to bring India into the um entire structure and to let India play a more active role in the so-called Indoacific affairs and to counterbalance China's influence is very vital."

The objective was to integrate India into the regional security structure and empower it to play a more active role, specifically to counterbalance China's growing influence. The Pentagon has clarified that the current name change does not alter the actual operational area of the command.

Bryce noted, "the inclusion of IndoPacific was not just something to include India, it was also echoing uh talking points you heard from other regional allies like in particular Tokyo and Wellington because you remember Abbe was the first person to use Korean and open IndoPacific."

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was a key proponent of the 'Open Indo-Pacific' concept, and the inclusion of 'Indo' resonated with priorities from allies like Tokyo and Wellington. Removing this prefix could be interpreted by regional capitals as a subtle signal regarding strategic priorities or commitment, potentially affecting alliance cohesion.

The full strategic picture of the new administration's approach to the Indo-Pacific is still in its formative stage. Tristan stated that "What's really in the mind of Pax or Trump administration has not really formed yet? uh they need to redirect resources and equipment to lease uh to major operation for us."
