Flydubai Pilot Fights Off Co-Pilot Attack

Captain Smit Machchhar fought off his co-pilot during a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv, which was carrying 170 passengers.

Machchhar sustained severe injuries during the struggle, receiving immediate treatment from a passenger who was a dentist.

A senior Emirati official officially described the incident as a terrorist attack.

I was telling sir that I was doing this for my life. But at the same time, I knew that I cannot let everybody else die.

The captain's wife declined to discuss the incident's details publicly, aiming to avoid triggering flashbacks for her husband, a veteran pilot with 17 years of experience who once considered flying his dream profession.

A passenger named Suica described hearing loud banging noises emanating from the cockpit, followed by the cockpit door opening to reveal one pilot stabbing the other.

Passengers, acting on instinct to protect their families, rushed to subdue the attacker, driven by intense adrenaline that masked their physical pain during the ordeal.

I had my wife screams, screaming and I had my daughters screaming. We don't want to die, father. We don't want to die.

Captain Smead opened the cockpit door, allowing three passengers to rush in and subdue the co-pilot, an act credited with preventing the plane from crashing.

The captain's quick thinking in a critical situation played a crucial role, with an unidentified passenger acknowledging him as a hero for their survival.

Violent fighting noises emanated from the cockpit area as the attacker continued stabbing the pilot.

Despite his injuries, the pilot managed to keep the cockpit door sufficiently open to push the assailant out of the cockpit.

She saw, the captain getting stabbed.

Daniel Schlichter used three or four sets of earphones to tie up the attacker's legs and head, improvising restraints amidst the chaos.

The plane rapidly lost altitude with its nose down, causing debris to fly around and children to scream in the cabin as passengers struggled to control the situation during the steep descent.

I took 3 or 4 sets of earphones, so they came tie up. The tail is legs and heads.

Passengers became suspicious of the flight attendants, unsure if they were cooperating with the attacker during the unfolding crisis.

As a precaution, flight attendants were moved to the back of the plane and isolated by passengers, who maintained control until the situation could be clarified.

We had some doubts about them and were suspicious about them. So we put them in, like a story, like, area. Not, not in the cockpit area.

Daniel Schlichter described the event as a "pure miracle," citing several critical factors, including the captain's success in opening the cockpit door despite being stabbed and three passengers effectively neutralizing the terrorist.

The presence of two additional off-duty pilots on the flight further contributed to the successful stabilization of the aircraft, ultimately leading to the survival of all passengers and crew.

Clearly, it was, pure miracle. And, and, it's not the only one miracle, because if you think about it, then if only the the Indian pilots, captain, would not be able to open the door. That will be it. I mean, that would be the end of the case.
