A Chinese flotilla comprising five vessels continuously shadowed the allied forces during the exercise. This group included a Luyang-class guided missile destroyer, a Jiangkai II-class guided missile frigate, a Houbei-class missile boat, and two China Coast Guard cutters.

These vessels maintained a persistent distance of 2 to 4.5 nautical miles from the allied ships, closely observing their maneuvers from August 21 onwards. This sustained shadowing demonstrates a calculated strategy to monitor and assert presence in the contested waters.
