Benny Camera Robot: A Wheel-Based 4K Camera That Flips

Marques Brownlee introduced the Benny camera robot by commanding it to "do a flip." This unusual introduction stemmed from Brownlee's experiment of agreeing to every email inquiry for a month, which led to the discovery of this unique device.

Brownlee's month-long commitment to saying "yes" to all emails brought various items, but the Benny camera robot stood out as the most intriguing. He noted that while many silly items arrived, this robot was the coolest discovery.

This design allows for dynamic footage capture from unique perspectives.

Users can control the Benny robot using either a dedicated remote or a smartphone app. This dual control option provides flexibility and convenience for different shooting scenarios.

Benny boasts advanced features, including the ability to automatically lock onto and follow a person with a single tap. It incorporates object avoidance technology and can track subjects at speeds up to 18 mph.

A notable, albeit puzzling, feature is its capacity to perform flips, raising questions about its practical purpose.

Brownlee admitted to having no idea why the robot can perform side flips or back flips, stating there's no apparent advantage for video recording. He highlighted that such maneuvers likely do not enhance the footage quality.

Despite the questionable utility of flipping, Brownlee found it incredibly impressive that the tiny motors, self-balancing mechanisms, and gyroscopes operate so effectively to enable such stunts. This showcases remarkable engineering within a compact design.

The Benny robot appears to be remarkably durable, primarily constructed from plastic. Brownlee observed it repeatedly slamming into objects and falling over, yet it consistently recovered without issue.

Even after falls, Benny quickly gets back up as if nothing happened, a testament to its robust design and software.

This perspective makes it challenging to integrate into typical follow-footage scenarios.

He remains very impressed with its capabilities and engineering.

Brownlee encouraged viewers to follow for more reviews of the unusual items he acquired during his month-long "yes to everything" experiment.
