North Korean soldiers recently crossing the military demarcation line demonstrates why Gordon Chang believes scaling up exercises is vital to counter recent provocations and belligerence.

His comments followed recent reports of North Korean soldiers crossing the military demarcation line, which underscores the volatile nature of the border.

Chang emphasized that scaling down exercises emboldens belligerence, a critical issue given North Korea's provision of artillery, missiles, and soldiers to Russia for the Ukraine war.

He contended that the United States should be increasing, rather than decreasing, military drills to project strength and deter aggression from Pyongyang.

Chang also warned that any future conflict with China may not begin in East Asia but rather on American soil, suggesting potential pre-emptive strikes by Chinese agents operating within the U.S.

Xi referenced the Thucydides Trap and the "new era" of Chinese dominance, phrases Chang believes signal China's ambition to rule the world.

During a meeting in the Zhongnanhai leadership compound, Trump's chair was noticeably positioned lower than Xi's, which Chang viewed as a calculated attempt to belittle the American president.

Chang urged the administration to adopt a stronger public stance against China, contending that such actions demand a robust response to assert American leadership.
