The People Power Party urged veteran lawmakers not to run, emphasizing a personnel overhaul, while the Democratic Party accelerated the reshuffle of its leadership centered on Kim Min-seok, raising issues of damage to Korean cultural heritage and national security threats.
The PPP also expressed concern, interpreting the Democratic Party's intention to increase the number of Supreme Court justices as part of its plan to control the judiciary.
This was interpreted as an underlying intention to restructure judicial power, hidden behind the pretext of increasing the number of Supreme Court justices.
He criticized some veteran lawmakers for being preoccupied with internal party issues or criticizing the current leadership, while being passive in fighting against the ruling party. In response, some veteran lawmakers, including Representative Kwon Young-se, expressed their discomfort and opposition.
This was contrasted with President Lee Jae-myung's golf outing, drawing criticism that veteran members who should be fighting for the party were ignoring reality. Furthermore, suspicions arose that they secretly pushed for constitutional amendment discussions with the President, with criticism continuing that they showed behavior contrary to the party leadership's fight during a party crisis.
He directly demanded that veteran lawmakers who do not fight 'take off their badges' and mentioned figures such as Ahn Cheol-soo, Na Kyung-won, and Cho Bae-sook, who are strong in fighting the opposition. These remarks are interpreted as a powerful message to enhance the party's overall fighting power and reform spirit.
This reversed the previous 2-3 composition of the supreme council to 4-3, establishing a pro-Lee Jae-myung centered leadership. This appointment is interpreted as Kim Min-seok's intent to further solidify the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction's dominance within the party.
Kim Min-seok's decision drew criticism for prioritizing a pro-Lee Jae-myung centered leadership over democratic party procedures, despite low Democratic Party support among those in their 20s and 30s (10-20%).
