VRRIIS Transmitter Unlocks Wireless DJI Pocket

Utilizing the built-in gimbal, smart tracking, and compact form factor of the DJI Pocket, this VRRIIS accessory facilitates wireless video transmission for multicam environments.

This setup allows the camera's built-in gimbal and smart tracking features to be utilized in a multicam environment, providing a flexible tool for creators.

The VRRIIS transmitter integrates directly into the DJI Pocket camera, leveraging its native UVC webcam streaming mode without requiring complex configurations.

The device features an NPF slot, with a tested NPF-550 battery providing approximately three hours of runtime, powering both the transmitter and the DJI Pocket simultaneously.

Channel synchronization is handled automatically by the system, eliminating the need for manual setup.

The receiver outputs video via HDMI, connecting easily to monitors or switchers for live production.

It can be powered by an NPF battery for portable use or via USB-C for continuous power, with the operational simplicity cited as a major advantage.

Traditional wireless production setups typically require separate cameras, lenses, transmitters, and gimbals, which are often bulky and expensive.

The DJI Pocket, with its integrated gimbal and lens in a compact form factor, offers a streamlined alternative, requiring only the VRRIIS accessory for wireless transmission.

Its smart tracking feature, activated by a double-tap, allows the camera to follow a subject hands-free, making it ideal for events, conferences, or church services where non-expert operators may be involved.

The system exhibits a latency of approximately four to five frames, which is a common characteristic of wireless video connections.

This delay is considered manageable for most live production workflows, though users should be mindful of it when synchronizing with other cameras.

The speaker notes that while some delay is inherent with wireless connections, it is not excessively problematic for typical live uses.

The device is advertised with a line-of-sight range of 1,000 feet, which was tested in a real-world home environment.

Despite transmitting through thick walls and moving further down the street, the image quality remained stable, though some signal drops were observed at greater distances from the receiver.

Some users have reported small clicking or crackling sounds through the receiver, indicating a potential audio issue.

The presenter recommends using a separate audio system as a standard practice for professional productions.

Both the transmitter and receiver utilize Sony NPF-style batteries; a Sony NPF 550 battery provided approximately 3 hours and 6 minutes of runtime.

The transmitter intelligently manages power by charging the Pocket camera only when necessary, thus preserving its own battery life, and supports hot-swapping batteries by connecting to a USB-C power source.

The transmitter becomes noticeably warm to the touch during prolonged operation, making it uncomfortable to hold directly after about an hour of use.

The presenter advises using an external handle to avoid direct contact with the warm device.

The Pocket 4P further enhances functionality with zoom capabilities up to 12x while maintaining active track, demonstrating seamless signal connectivity across the Pocket 4 series.

The system supports a maximum transmission resolution of 1080p, constrained by the camera's webcam mode, which also caps internal recording resolution if transmitting simultaneously.

DJI Pocket 4 and 4P models experience a screen-blackout issue after a few minutes in webcam mode that cannot be disabled, a problem not observed in the Pocket 3.

Currently, Insta360 Link/Luna series cameras are incompatible due to a lack of native UVC support and distinct physical mounting requirements.

The VRRIIS transmitter is recommended for various live production scenarios, including live streams, conferences, events, and church services.

Priced under $300, it offers a more affordable and less complex alternative to traditional mirrorless camera wireless setups, providing significant new functionality for existing DJI Pocket camera owners.
