PM Modi Addresses BRICS Summit on Economic Growth

BRICS nations together represent a formidable economic power, possessing vast reserves of food, fuel, and fertilizer essential for global stability. The collective strength of these countries includes significant manufacturing capabilities, advanced technology, substantial capital, rich natural resources, and a talented workforce. This unique combination of assets presents unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and growth.

To fully leverage this potential, there is an urgent need to strengthen connections across trade, investment, and value chains among member nations. This integration would foster greater economic interdependence and create a more robust global economic system.

India's leadership of the BRICS forum is guided by four core pillars designed to address contemporary global challenges and foster inclusive growth. These pillars include strengthening resilience in global supply chains, fostering innovation through digital infrastructure, enhancing cooperation via paperless trade, and promoting sustainability with green energy initiatives.

Specific recommendations presented today offer a clear roadmap for action, aiming to improve supply chain preparedness and information sharing for greater economic stability. Additionally, efforts are underway to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital public infrastructure, emphasizing paperless trade mechanisms and interoperability among member states. The focus on sustainability extends to promoting green hydrogen and low-carbon fuels as key components of a future-proof energy strategy.

This includes the successful launch of new projects, the formation of robust partnerships, the development of cutting-edge technologies, and the generation of significant trade and investment flows.

Governments play a crucial role in providing a supportive environment conducive to business growth, while it is the private sector that drives the actual economic value. Therefore, the focus remains on facilitating an ecosystem where businesses can thrive and translate strategic recommendations into measurable economic benefits.

This report outlines key achievements, recommendations, and future strategies for fostering greater economic collaboration within the alliance.

This report aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for empowering women in economic spheres across BRICS nations.

The primary goal of the BRICS WBA is to transition women entrepreneurs from mere participation in the economy to positions of leadership, enabling them to scale their businesses and influence economic policy. This shift is crucial for fostering inclusive growth and leveraging the full potential of women in business.

This reframing highlights the broad impact of women's full participation on national and global economies.

The strategy emphasizes four pillars for BRICS development, focusing on enabling women to access critical markets, finance, technology, and skills necessary for business growth and leadership. The crucial role of the care economy is also acknowledged, as it directly impacts women's workforce participation and overall economic contribution.

The success of innovative ideas, particularly from women entrepreneurs, hinges on establishing stronger connections between them and investors, alongside robust financing mechanisms. This financial infrastructure is crucial for enabling women-led enterprises to scale their operations and impact.

Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), such as India's UPI, serves as a vital bridge for economic development, facilitating seamless transactions and expanding financial inclusion. Women must evolve from being mere users of technology to becoming its creators and leaders, thereby driving innovation. A compendium on financial inclusion was also highlighted, showcasing scalable practices that empower women economically.

Their contributions are vital for strengthening overall economic resilience.

Recommendations include promoting climate-smart agriculture and ensuring intellectual property (IP) ownership for women, recognizing their significant role in driving sustainable development. Furthermore, there is a strong emphasis on creating new markets specifically tailored for female entrepreneurs, fostering an environment where their solutions can thrive and scale.

The diverse experiences across BRICS countries represent a significant strength, serving as a dynamic laboratory for identifying and refining successful business models. Rather than reinventing solutions, the alliance can leverage this diversity to share and scale proven strategies.

This approach focuses on identifying effective practices within one member nation and adapting them for broader implementation across other BRICS countries. To this end, the BRICS Women's Business Alliance (WBA) has developed 10 key recommendations spanning six crucial sectors, aiming to standardize and amplify successful initiatives.

The official submission of the 2026 Annual Report to BRICS leaders signifies this commitment, urging that women's contributions be central to economic strategy rather than supplementary. This approach aims to ensure that inclusive growth remains at the heart of BRICS's long-term vision.

This involves moving beyond conceptual ideas to implement solutions that directly benefit member countries and their citizens.

The priority is to translate shared visions for future cooperation into tangible results within the alliance. This renewed focus on practical application and measurable achievements reflects New Delhi's role as a central hub for the vision, ensuring BRICS's continued relevance, openness, and inclusiveness through effective ecosystem solutions.
