China Swarms Taiwan With 200 Ships, Escalating War Fears

China has been increasingly using non-military vessels, such as Coast Guard and research ships, to exert pressure on Taiwan. This approach marks a shift from previous tactics that heavily relied on fighter jets. The objective is to change maritime conditions in the region without provoking an open conflict, by repeatedly establishing patrol patterns, gathering information, and maintaining a persistent presence.

Global Front Narrator states, "Beijing does not need to begin an open conflict to change conditions at sea. By repeatedly showing up, issuing instructions, gathering information, and establishing patrol patterns, Chinese government vessels can gradually create a presence that becomes harder to challenge."

A record number of Chinese vessels has been detected around Taiwan, excluding PLA Navy warships. In May, approximately 30 vessels were observed, a number that increased to 55 in June. By July, this figure surged to a record 244 vessels.

The vessel eventually recovered its equipment and departed the area.
