Parenthood Becomes More Interactive and Joyful
Ali Abdaal reports that being a dad is significantly more interesting now than a year ago, as his daughter is 16 months old, walking, and starting to speak. He mentions that she now says "mommy," "daddy," and "peace" when asked for "more please." This increased interactivity has made parenthood much more enjoyable for him, contrasting it with the earlier months when he described his baby as a "potato."
He has established a daily morning routine with his daughter, which includes a walk to a coffee shop where he has coffee and she enjoys a 'baby chino.' The speaker notes that around the 8-month mark, he started finding the experience "quite fun." She is also learning new skills each month, such as climbing stairs roughly unassisted, and attends Montessori-style play groups.
Living in Hong Kong, Abdaal highlights the affordability and availability of childcare, including a full-time 24/7 nanny, as a life-changing aspect of his family life. This support allows him and his wife, Izzy, to go on weekly date nights and manage office work, differentiating their experience from many friends in other locations.
