Cashflow Academy Reveals Seven Scanner Settings for Rapid Swing Trading

Noah Davidson from The Cashflow Academy introduced a strategy for finding swing trades quickly, which he claims feels almost like cheating. This approach is based on seven specific scanner settings designed to identify high-quality trade candidates in a short timeframe, typically 5 to 10 minutes.

Davidson emphasized that while scanner settings are crucial for efficiency, they are secondary to a fundamental understanding of market dynamics, highlighting a 29-year veteran's perspective on swing trading.

The first 'C' is Context, which involves assessing the broader market picture and understanding the flow of institutional money.

The second 'C' is Confluence, ensuring that trends across the market, specific sectors, and individual stocks are aligned. The third 'C' stands for Catalyst, identifying the underlying reason for a price movement, such as news, earnings reports, or technical triggers.

The fourth 'C' is Chart, which focuses on recognizing predictable price patterns that can provide a trading edge. Finally, the fifth 'C' is Confirmation, where traders wait for price action to clearly signal a valid entry point.

Analyzing the S&P 500, Davidson noted that the weekly chart showed a triple top formation combined with a consolidation pattern. This made it difficult to determine if bullish momentum would be sustained, suggesting the market might be losing steam.

The daily chart further indicated a failed breakout, implying potential selling pressure and reinforcing the observation that the S&P 500 was exhibiting signs of consolidation and reduced upward thrust.

Turning to the Nasdaq, Davidson pointed out a significant 'double top' formation on the daily chart, which he described as an "M for murder." He warned that if the support zone at 28,500 were to break, it could lead to substantial selling pressure.

Increased trading volume in this context suggested that profit-taking activities were already underway, indicating a potential bearish shift for the index.

The Russell 2000, representing mid-cap stocks, also demonstrated a healthy trend, finding support at its 50-period moving average.

These observations suggested that the Dow and Russell indices were currently more resilient and less bearish than the technology-heavy Nasdaq.

Davidson highlighted that the standard S&P 500 index is heavily influenced by a few large tech companies, specifically the 'Magnificent 7.' However, when examining the equally weighted S&P Index (RSP), which mitigates this bias, the market appeared less bearish.

This distinction indicated a potential profit-taking trend in the dominant tech stocks and an ongoing rotation of capital into other sectors within the broader market.

This elevation suggests that implied volatility expectations are rising, potentially signaling bearish sentiment among investors.

The increase in put option premiums further supports this, indicating that investors are actively purchasing insurance against potential market declines.

The basic materials sector showed signs of inside consolidation on its weekly chart, indicating a period of indecision. In contrast, the communication sector displayed significant bearishness, marked by a triple top formation on the weekly chart and a potential breakdown.

Notable communication stocks like Google and Netflix experienced substantial gap-downs following lowered earnings guidance, reinforcing the sector's weakness.

This created arbitrage opportunities for refiners and producers, boosting their profits.

However, Davidson cautioned that the sector was currently overextended, suggesting a need to wait for a pullback before considering entry into energy-related trades.

The financial sector demonstrated significant bullish momentum, breaking to new highs on its weekly chart and retesting previous support and resistance levels. Similarly, the industrial sector showed considerable strength, with a clear breakout on its weekly chart, indicating robust performance.

Davidson noted that institutions were maintaining their positions in the industrial sector without signs of panic, suggesting these sectors were among the strongest performers in the current market and were attracting capital rotation.

These shadows indicated that bulls were firmly in control of the price action.

On the daily chart, the sector displayed a 'W' recovery pattern, further reinforcing the positive momentum and suggesting a strong rebound.

Davidson explained that he always filters for 'optionable and shortable' stocks to ensure all trading strategies, both bullish and bearish, are available. He also sets the average volume to over 1 million to exclude illiquid assets and filters for stocks priced over $50 to focus on mainstream options and avoid low-priced, highly volatile stocks.

To further refine bullish stock candidates, Davidson applies specific technical filters. He searches for stocks that are trading above their 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day simple moving averages, indicating an established uptrend. This method helps to identify stocks with strong upward momentum.

Applying these filters to the healthcare sector, he identified potential breakout candidates such as ABBV and Amgen, suggesting these stocks were positioned for further gains.

He also noted that sector-specific scans might initially include Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), which can be filtered out if the focus is solely on individual stocks.

This method allows traders to confirm that selected stocks within a strong sector are also experiencing heightened market attention, making them more attractive for swing trades.

Davidson pointed out a significant thematic weakness in the housing sector, observing bearish patterns in homebuilders like D.R. Horton and Lennar Homes. This weakness extended to home improvement retailers such as Home Depot and Lowe's, which were also showing a downtick.

Recognizing this correlation between home builders and related retail segments provides a crucial market edge, allowing traders to identify industry-wide bearish trends for potential short-selling opportunities.

The communication sector exhibited considerable weakness, with specific stocks like Baidu, Google, and Meta showing concerning patterns. Netflix, in particular, was highlighted as a bear retracement setup: it had gapped down on earnings, then rallied back into the gap, which acted as a major support and resistance zone.

This pattern indicated that the rally was likely a temporary retracement within a broader bearish trend, offering a potential short-selling opportunity.

After identifying potential trade candidates using the scanner settings, the final step involves a rigorous selection process. Davidson emphasized re-verifying each candidate against his 'Five C's of Swing Trading' framework to ensure alignment with market context and technical confluence. This double-check helps solidify the rationale behind a trade idea.

Following this, a thorough fundamental analysis is conducted, which includes reviewing recent earnings reports, staying updated on relevant news cycles, and examining the overall health and prospects of the company. This multi-layered approach ensures that selected trades are not only technically sound but also fundamentally supported.
