Gareth Soloway Exits Bitcoin and Altcoin Positions, Initiates Shorts After Recent Rally

Gareth Soloway recently disclosed that he invested $5 million last Sunday into Bitcoin and various altcoins, including XRP and Solana. Throughout the following week, the market saw a significant upward movement, confirming his chart-based predictions. By the end of the week, Soloway exited all his cryptocurrency holdings and has since initiated small short positions in Bitcoin and other cryptos.

Soloway observed that the prevailing bearish sentiment preceding the recent rally paradoxically made the move more bullish for him. This widespread pessimism meant that many market participants were 'underweight Bitcoin,' creating ideal conditions for a short squeeze and a sustained rally. The skepticism and fear among investors ultimately helped to fuel and maintain the upward momentum.

Soloway's primary analytical tool for predicting the recent move was a simple trend line originating from the all-time high. He noted how the price repeatedly tested this trend line without touching it until it reached a specific 'anchor point,' which it tagged three times before a subsequent fall. This period of slow accumulation allowed the market to recharge, setting the stage for the eventual breakout.

The breakout signal, termed 'blastoff central' by Soloway, occurred when the price surged past previous equal highs, following a pattern of lower highs. This was marked by a 'three bar surge' of monsterized candles, which in technical analysis, suggests high momentum but also potential exhaustion. Such a rapid upward movement often indicates that the market is using up its buying power.

Soloway explains that a 'three-bar surge' in price, characterized by significant, rather than medium-sized, price bars, is a key signal of market exhaustion. He likens this rapid movement to a car running on empty, indicating that the asset's momentum is likely to wane soon. This signal was crucial in his decision to exit long positions.

Soloway also employs 'hidden trend lines' by connecting historical highs to identify potential future resistance levels. He describes how price often retraces to these previously established high points, which he refers to as the 'scene of the crime,' where it is expected to face rejection and reverse course.

He clarifies that both his long positions and current short positions are short-term swing trades, distinct from any long-term bias. He rejects labels like 'bull' or 'bear,' focusing solely on what the data suggests for trading setups.

He typically focuses on the 38.2%, 50%, and 61.8% retracement levels. For Bitcoin, his conservative pullback target is set around $73,000, indicating where he anticipates the price might stabilize after its meteoric rise.

Soloway is not convinced the bear market is over because the current chart structure still shows a series of lower highs. For a structural shift to occur, the price needs to pull back, then rally to establish a 'higher high' that surpasses the previous peak. This data-driven approach helps him avoid making investment decisions based on emotion, focusing instead on objective market patterns.

Soloway argues that in today's world, market sentiment is often driven by emotional narratives from social media and mainstream media, which he describes as 'garbage.' These platforms frequently promote greed and fear, leading retail investors astray. He contends that by strictly following technical charts, investors can gain a crucial edge, as charts provide objective data rather than biased stories.

Soloway had previously highlighted the ETH chart as one of the best due to its inverse head and shoulders pattern and bull flag. This setup led to an incredible price movement, with ETH climbing from approximately $1870 to $2550. The asset has now reached a key pivot point of resistance, suggesting a potential pause or reversal.

Solana recently experienced a breakout from a wedge formation, fueled by a bull flag into an ascending trend line. This breakout propelled the price directly to a key resistance level. Soloway suggests that Solana might consolidate at this resistance before attempting to reach higher price targets.

Soloway notes that while XRP could potentially move slightly higher in the short term, it is fundamentally at the beginning of a period of massive resistance, based on historical highs and lows. He currently holds a short position on XRP.

He acknowledges that crypto altcoins exhibit higher volatility and risk, necessitating a cautious approach. Shorting is employed as a method to capture profits from pullbacks and to hedge against potential downside risk in the market.

His analysis shows that ZEC recently peaked precisely at a parallel trend line drawn from previous low and high pivots. Based on this technical setup, he projects a pullback target for ZEC between $685 and $690.

He indicates that if Hyperliquid's price reaches approximately $88 in the next few days, it would become an attractive short position.

He emphasizes the importance of security, given the potential for shadiness in the crypto world. This preference stems from a desire for transparency and accountability in managing digital assets.
