Yoo Si-min's 'Honam's Self-Interested Vote' Sparks Widespread Backlash

This remark has sparked significant controversy, facing criticism for distorting Honam's public sentiment. Representatives Ahn Ho-young and Park Hee-seung publicly opposed Yoo Si-min's statement, speaking on behalf of Honam's public sentiment.

Representative Ahn Ho-young strongly criticized author Yoo Si-min's remarks on his Facebook page. He emphasized that Honam's choice stems from its democratic civic consciousness, and support for candidate Kim Min-seok is for the success of the Lee Jae-myung leadership. Representative Ahn argued that Yoo Si-min should not disparage Honam's choice, based on its high democratic civic consciousness, as a self-interested vote.

Honam voters interviewed by the news team demonstrated high political acumen, discerning the nuances of current affairs. This suggests that Yoo Si-min's analysis may be far removed from actual Honam public sentiment. On-site, the prevailing assessment was that Honam voters possess a very high level of political awareness.

Representative Park Hee-seung criticized author Yoo Si-min's remarks, noting that Jeonbuk province also overwhelmingly supported candidate Kim Min-seok. He argued that since Jeonbuk is not a semiconductor investment region, the 'self-interested vote' interpretation is incorrect. Representative Park emphasized that the autonomous choice of party members should be accepted as is, without distortion.

This shows that Honam's public sentiment goes beyond simple self-interest, holding a clear stance on the party's direction and leadership.

Some citizens reacted favorably to Yoo Si-min's statement, expressing concerns about Lee Jae-myung's excessive interference in party affairs. However, most citizens took a negative stance on the remarks.

They particularly voiced negative opinions about the assessment that 'author Yoo Si-min has prescience,' mentioning the success story of former President Kim Dae-jung and pointing out that Yoo Si-min's diagnosis might be disconnected from reality.

Complicated vested interests, such as opposition from the U.S. Forces Korea, lead to a lack of confidence in project implementation. It was also pointed out that the 'self-interested vote' interpretation lacks persuasiveness amid such uncertainties.

The analysis suggests that it was not merely 'self-interest' in a mega-project, but rather the overall party atmosphere and faith in Representative Lee Jae-myung that played a role.

Honam citizens strongly rejected author Yoo Si-min's interpretation that they supported candidate Kim Min-seok due to a mega-project. They emphasized that trust in the sincerity of the candidate and party is more important than political advantages or disadvantages. The consistent opinion of citizens was that they certainly did not support Kim Min-seok out of impatience over the potential failure of the mega-project.

This is interpreted as a positive reaction to Lee Jae-myung's attitude of considering Honam's sentiments and feelings, beyond just the feasibility of the project.

They emphasized that Honam's support for candidate Kim Min-seok was not merely an act of pursuing self-interest, but the result of very high-level political judgment. Interviewees countered that Yoo Si-min was distorting Honam's perceptions and that his analysis was disconnected from actual Honam public sentiment.

An airport taxi driver positively evaluated former representative Jeong Cheong-rae's activities as chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, but stated that the responsibility for the local election defeat lies with the party leader. He explained the reason for the shift in public sentiment in this national convention, unlike the high support for former representative Jeong Cheong-rae during the last presidential election, by linking it to the responsibility for the local election defeat. Gwangju citizens also analyzed that they turned away from former representative Jeong Cheong-rae for these reasons.

Opinions also arose that this attitude appears cowardly, strong against the weak and weak against the strong, disappointing citizens.

This was pointed out as stemming from Yoo Si-min's view that belittles Honam citizens' political judgment. Honam citizens perceived local issues and support for the party leader as separate matters.

This could be seen as a cowardly political stance, weak before the strong and strong before the weak. An analysis also emerged that viewers hold a critical view of Yoo Si-min's actions.
