Alex Stein Interviews Ben Bergquam on Addiction Recovery, Discusses Lindsay Clancy Trial and Political Views

His experiences range from cartel shootouts to Antifa attacks, illustrating the intense challenges he has faced.

The book not only shares his raw story of addiction, a double life, faith, and marital restoration but also incorporates QR codes that link readers to actual video footage of the events described. Bergquam noted that before his recovery, he was at a point in his life where he faced the grim possibilities of either imprisonment or death.

He stated, "Look, everything in my life has had at its foundation a high degree of fear. Whether as an addict I was an addict 10 years ago. I was set free in in October 10 years ago, back put back on this journey. I was at a place in my life where I was either going to end up in prison or dead."

The host and Ben Bergquam discussed the shared, desperate experiences common among individuals struggling with substance abuse. They touched upon the 'carpet fiber' phenomenon, a metaphor for the extreme lengths and humiliating acts people resort to when trapped in the depths of addiction.

Bergquam explained, "It's a common thing with crackheads. It's a common thing with crackheads. They Yeah, yeah, so it's it's not plagiarizing. It's what they all do. It's what we all did. It's you know, when you're living in that pit of despair, you'll find yourself in in similar despair." The conversation highlighted the universal nature of desperation in the 'pit of despair' associated with addiction. The host also lightened the mood with a joking reference to Hunter Biden in the context of shared addiction experiences.

Clancy is accused of murdering her three children and is pleading insanity. Stein highlighted the perplexing nature of the case, where Clancy has admitted to the murders.

He explained that her defense rests on the claim that a "cocktail of prescription drugs" and inadequate care from her doctors drove her to commit the murders. Stein emphasized that she argues she was both over-medicated and under-medicated, receiving improper care.

Stein stated, "Now, what's so crazy about this case is that Lindsay is currently in court fighting for her life and her defense is she's pleading insanity. That's right. She's admitted to murdering the kids. She said that she did it, but she said because of her cocktail of prescription drugs and being over medicated and also arguing that she was under medicated and not getting proper care from all of the different doctors she was going to that it drove her to murder her three children."

Alex Stein highlighted this significant public financial support, noting that it comes from individuals who believe in various theories surrounding her case.

Stein remarked, "she has raised over $800,000 in GoFundMe donations because there are conspiracy theorists out there that are accusing her husband of doing it, that are also saying that she had uh you know, depression from having a baby and that she was just mentally unwell." Supporters of the fundraiser often point to postpartum mental illness and depression as potential mitigating factors for her actions, while others entertain conspiracy theories, including accusations against her husband. Alex Stein vehemently criticized the supporters of this fundraiser, labeling them as "sick people."

Her sister stated, "the first thing she said about the doctors was back in October when she said that she saw a doctor for Zoloft and had a very awful reaction to that Zoloft." This testimony is a crucial part of the defense's strategy, which centers on establishing the role of prescription medication and postpartum psychosis in Clancy's mental state leading up to the tragic events.

A former coworker of Lindsay Clancy provided testimony that offered a stark contrast to Clancy's current criminal charges. The coworker recounted a past conversation where Clancy had an emotional reaction to the story of Andrea Yates, a mother who drowned her five children. Clancy was reportedly unaware of the Yates case prior to this conversation.

The coworker recalled, "I asked her if she had ever heard of the Andrea Yates case, and she hadn't. And I explained that to her, and she cried. And she said, 'How could a mother hurt her children?'" This anecdote is being presented by the defense to highlight Clancy's past empathy and disbelief regarding such heinous acts, potentially suggesting a significant shift in her mental state.

This narrative has sparked considerable debate.

A TikTok user in the video clip stated, "Many of us see ourselves in Lindsay. Many of us know that we could have been only one step away from doing some of those horrific things because we experienced significant mental health issues after one of our children was born." Advocates of this perspective argue that Clancy's case highlights a broader crisis in maternal mental health and the potential for severe consequences when issues go unaddressed.

Alex Stein, however, strongly condemned this viewpoint, interpreting it as a troubling sign of societal decline. He expressed concern over the normalization of such extreme sentiments and the perceived lack of accountability.

Stein offered advice focused on patience and maintaining a positive attitude despite the challenges. He acknowledged the caller's frustration but encouraged a strategic approach to the situation.

Stein advised, "I'm sorry that she's doing this to punish you, Chris. The only way that I could really make this any better is that you have to be patient... don't throw the mom under the bus too much even if you know that she's wrong." His counsel centered on the importance of being the "bigger man" and not escalating tensions, even when provoked. He stressed that long-term patience and a commitment to stability would ultimately benefit the child.

The viewer questioned if Stein was serious about his claims, prompting a firm defense from the host. Stein asserted that his preference was genuine and based on an objective assessment.

He stated, "AOC is objectively pretty. She's objectively the hottest girl on Capitol Hill... I like big booty Latinas." Stein reiterated his opinion, making comparisons to other female political figures to underscore his point. He maintained that regardless of political differences, AOC possesses a distinctive appeal on Capitol Hill, aligning with his personal preferences.

Alex Stein responded to a listener's suggestion to pursue a new romantic interest, named Shandra Claus, while maintaining his current relationship. Stein playfully acknowledged the idea but cited his commitment to his current partner, 'Strawberita,' as well as practical and financial constraints.

He humorously remarked, "I am a polygamist and I can have multiple wives. Right now, my hands are full with Strawberita... I don't know how many other girlfriends I can take at the moment." Stein referenced his "part Mormon" identity and polygamist views as a theoretical basis for multiple relationships, but ultimately concluded that his current circumstances limit such endeavors. His response balanced a lighthearted take on the suggestion with a realistic appraisal of his present commitments.

He reacted to a crude joke submitted by a caller, using it as a springboard for his broader views on comedy.

He articulated, "I love gay jokes and it's funny to make a gay joke as long as you're not a homosexual... I'm very pro gay because I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan." Stein made a distinction between comedic performance and personal identity, implying that humor should not be conflated with one's sexual orientation. He also wove in commentary on the Dallas Cowboys' roster moves and the performance of players like Von Miller, demonstrating his deep engagement with the sport and his team.

He explained that federal politicians, in his view, lack true autonomy due to external pressures.

Stein stated, "I would say that I have considered running for some sort of office, but this is the problem, too, when it comes to being a politician. These politicians don't have any autonomy. They don't have any really." He cited the significant influence of special interest groups and lobbyists as primary reasons for this perceived lack of independence. Stein indicated a preference for running for mayor, believing it would allow him to enact more direct and impactful changes at the city level, where he feels genuine autonomy is still possible.

Stein asserted that Thune wields considerable influence over the Texas GOP, making Paxton's alienation a significant political hurdle.

He stated, "You can see right now Ken Paxton in Texas having trouble because he basically alienated himself from John Thune, and John Thune is in charge of the Texas GOP, basically." Stein suggested that federal fundraising often operates on a transactional basis, implying that a lack of political alignment or favor can severely impact a politician's ability to secure necessary funds. This friction, according to Stein, has created a challenging financial landscape for Paxton within the state's Republican party.

He characterized the technology as overly invasive, capable of creating detailed profiles of individuals' movements.

Stein warned, "I think Flock cameras are very invasive. They can create a neural net of where your car goes. They're going to have a history and with the AI technology, they can pinpoint where we're going to go and even predict where we might go in the future." He expressed concern that these cameras, combined with AI technology, could track and predict movement patterns, thereby eroding personal privacy. Stein noted that his view on Flock cameras often contrasts with the general conservative support for law enforcement tools, highlighting a nuanced stance on surveillance technology.

He acknowledged that there are both advantages and disadvantages to their use.

Trump stated, "Well, it's being studied right now. You know, you have pros and cons, right? It's being studied right now. We'll have an answer sort of as to our views on it over the next couple of weeks." He promised to provide a clearer view on the matter within a couple of weeks, suggesting that a thorough review is underway to weigh the benefits against the privacy concerns.
