Spanish Broadcast in Controversy Over False Tesla Robotaxi Report

On September 5th KST, Spanish broadcaster Cuatro Noticias uploaded a 1-minute, 33-second news clip on the social media platform X, stating that Elon Musk unveiled a Tesla robotaxi without pedals or a steering wheel, and that it could be purchased for $30,000. The report claimed that about 50 of these robotaxis are currently operating in Austin.

While it is true that Tesla first deployed the Cybercab robotaxi in Austin, Texas, it has not officially announced personal sales or finalized a selling price. Currently, the service has begun via an app, and interested companies can submit an inquiry form. The reported $30,000 is only the cost or target price of the Cybercab, not the actual market price.

Cuatro Noticias suggested that Tesla's intention behind introducing the robotaxi was to revive the company. The broadcast claimed that Tesla's market capitalization had decreased by $1,500 and Musk's wealth by $18 billion due to a stock price drop in late July, and that he was trying to boost stock prices again. The Tesla community criticized this as a malicious portrayal, as if the company were on the verge of collapse.
