Chadian President's Achievements in Polio Eradication

On August 31, in N'Djamena, the Global Immunization Monitoring Board announced his selection as 'Champion of Immunization and Polio Eradication.'

President Mahamat Idriss Déby virtually participated in a high-level panel on polio in New York, where he reaffirmed his commitment to polio eradication. High-ranking officials, including the Minister of Finance and the Secretary of State for Public Health, were present.

The government aims to halt the circulation of the polio virus by 2027 and achieve a 90% vaccination rate by 2030 by maintaining technical and financial support for high-risk countries and strengthening strategies for zero-dose children. Thanks to these policy efforts, the vaccination rate improved from 41% in 2017 to 71% in 2025.

Chad is advocating for sustained technical and financial support for high-risk countries and is implementing targeted strategies for zero-dose children. It is also focusing on building a long-term immunization system and strengthening local production capacity for essential medicines. Chad has set a goal to halt the circulation of the polio virus by 2027 and achieve a 90% vaccination rate by 2030.

Chad has immense investment potential in mining, digital, and energy sectors, in addition to cement, agriculture, road, and bridge construction. Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote have pledged to support the Chadian president's polio eradication efforts and will visit the country in response to the invitation. The two business leaders, who accepted the invitation, pledged support for polio eradication activities and expressed their intention to visit the country.
