IPO Flop Highlights Investor Resistance to AI and Data Center Valuations
A South Korean data center IPO, a relatively small offering at $150 million, saw its market trading performance drop by as much as 38% at one point, closing down 32%. This poor debut is seen as further fueling concerns surrounding the AI and data center trade.
Paul Dobson, Executive Editor, noted that investors are pushing back against the high valuations of data center-related companies. This trend is not isolated to South Korea, as similar pushback and renegotiated fundraising terms have been observed in Australia and Europe.
The upcoming Anthropic IPO later in the year is anticipated to be a major test for investor sentiment regarding the AI theme, as market participants scrutinize business models and valuations in the sector.
