Jang Dong-hyuk, People Power Party Supreme Council Member, "Lee Jae-myung's Intervention in Party Affairs is Unprecedented in Constitutional History"

Jang Dong-hyuk, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, strongly criticized Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung's intervention in the party convention as unprecedented in constitutional history. He added that if such intervention in party affairs had occurred under a People Power Party administration, they would have immediately pushed for impeachment.

Supreme Council member Jang characterized Chairman Lee's actions as a blatant attempt to make a specific individual the party leader, and pointed out that this is highly inappropriate.

Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk claimed that Chairman Lee Jae-myung's intervention in the party convention was aimed at establishing a pro-Lee system for quashing indictments and amending the constitution for his re-election. He explained that Chairman Lee intervened excessively to resolve his judicial risks and to install a party leader who would condone the quashing of indictments and a constitutional amendment for re-election.

Supreme Council member Jang assessed that Chairman Lee exerted all his efforts to make a candidate who would follow his desired direction, one who 'understands his intentions with just a blink of an eye,' into the party leader.

Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk pointed out that Chairman Lee Jae-myung made many overreaches by intervening in the party convention, introducing artificial changes to the voting system such as the preferential voting system, and granting preferential candidate qualifications. He analyzed that Democratic Party members must have been greatly disappointed by this process.

He added that these overreaches were the background to the neck-and-neck race that unfolded in the final stages, contrary to initial predictions.

Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk predicted that party leader Kim Min-seok would perceive that Chairman Lee Jae-myung made him party leader, and therefore would do everything in his power to fulfill Chairman Lee's wishes. He asserted that party leader Kim Min-seok would focus party efforts on implementing all tactics, including quashing indictments and a constitutional amendment for re-election, to resolve Chairman Lee Jae-myung's judicial risks.

Supreme Council member Jang foresaw that there would be no clear plan to resolve internal party conflicts during this process.

Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk stated that Chairman Lee Jae-myung would continue to push for a constitutional amendment for re-election in order to survive. However, he questioned whether influential Democratic Party presidential hopefuls such as party leader Kim Min-seok or National Assembly member Jeong Cheong-rae would truly agree to Chairman Lee's constitutional amendment for re-election internally.

He pointed out that Chairman Lee Jae-myung's push for a constitutional amendment for re-election could lead to a decrease in the party's approval ratings and national administration support ratings. He predicted that this could cause a potential conflict of interest between Chairman Lee Jae-myung and future presidential hopefuls.

The host conveyed the prevailing mood within the Democratic Party. There is a 'co-destruction theory' that both Chairman Lee Jae-myung and party leader Kim Min-seok will perish if candidate Kim Min-seok becomes party leader.

Conversely, he added that there were conflicting rumors that if National Assembly member Jeong Cheong-rae became party leader, Chairman Lee Jae-myung would perish, but the Democratic Party would at least be able to breathe again.

Supreme Council member Jang Dong-hyuk analyzed that many of the Democratic Party's traditional supporters turned away during the process of candidate Kim Min-seok becoming party leader in this party convention. He assessed that this meant traditional supporters had turned their backs not only on party leader Kim Min-seok but also on Chairman Lee Jae-myung.

He predicted that this defection of traditional supporters could weaken the cohesion between Chairman Lee Jae-myung and the party leadership, and negatively impact the Democratic Party's overall approval ratings in the future.

Supreme Council member Jang expressed concern that this situation could act as a serious crisis within the Democratic Party.
