Na Kyung-won Criticizes Yong Hye-in's Resignation

Representative Na Kyung-won criticized Representative Yong Hye-in of the Basic Income Party's resignation from her ministerial candidate position, calling it the 'finale of a trashy drama.' She pointed out that Yong Hye-in became a proportional representative member of the National Assembly through a 'trick satellite party' with the Democratic Party, aided by the flawed semi-linked proportional representation system. Representative Na categorized Yong Hye-in as a 'fake youth, a second-stringer for the Democratic Party,' and asserted that her ambition for the Minister of Gender Equality and Family position ended amid the anger of the public and youth.

Representative Na Kyung-won mentioned that even after Yong Hye-in's resignation, Democratic Party officials, including Kim Min-seok, spoke of a 'progressive alliance' with Representative Yong Hye-in and stated they would advance electoral system reforms. She labeled them 'parasitic parties that embezzle 1.1 billion won annually in state subsidies,' and claimed they appeared to have mutually shared a directive to become the 'stronghold of the progressive alliance.'

Representative Na Kyung-won posed four public questions to Kim Min-seok, policy committee chairman of the Democratic Party. First, she asked why they insisted on a 'progressive alliance' even after Yong Hye-in resigned due to a lack of qualifications and allegations of legal violations. Second, she inquired whether there was any backroom deal between Chairman Lee Jae-myung and Representative Yong Hye-in regarding specific election law amendments in exchange for the ministerial resignation. Third, she asked if there was a promise of a third proportional representation term for Representative Yong Hye-in and her spouse's nomination in the next general election. Fourth, she urged them to clarify whether there was a dark plot to cover up allegations related to the Basic Income Party.

Representative Na Kyung-won stated that in 2019, the Democratic Party colluded with minor parties to pass the Senior Civil Servant Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) Act through fast-track, using the semi-linked proportional representation system. She criticized that the CIO Act was the subject of that backroom deal and was the beginning of a massive destruction of the judicial system. She claimed this was the prelude to the destruction of the national judicial system, leading to the dismantling of the prosecution and the complete abolition of investigative powers.

Representative Na Kyung-won pointed out that the semi-linked proportional representation system is a system that distorts public opinion and infringes on representative democracy, directly contradicting the constitutional principle of 'equality of votes.' She explained that as a result of this system, the value of proportional representation votes cast for large parties is contradictorily considered lighter than those for smaller parties. She also criticized that parties that are virtually unable to enter the National Assembly are exploiting it as a channel to receive state subsidies.

Representative Na Kyung-won announced that she would promptly introduce a bill to abolish the semi-linked proportional representation system to fundamentally block the emergence of 'privileged, tricky, parasitic political monsters' like Yong Hye-in's Basic Income Party. She set the goal of correcting distorted public opinion and normalizing election laws. She also urged social discussion to prevent such abuse of the proportional representation system.
