Botswana Overcomes 'Resource Curse' to Emerge as Economic Model
Botswana gained independence in 1966 and discovered diamond deposits in 1967. However, it overcame the instability commonly experienced by resource-rich nations and achieved economic growth.
Currently, it ranks third in the Human Development Index among sub-Saharan African countries and boasts the highest level of corruption perception in the region, surpassing Spain and Italy.
This has led to economic prosperity, with its GDP per capita exceeding that of South Africa and ranking second in the region after Gabon.
