Iraq Regains Sovereignty as Coalition Forces Depart

On April 7, a missile attack in the Al-Amriyah neighborhood of Baghdad resulted in the tragic deaths of an 8-year-old son and his father.

The area was located within 10 km of a US military base, and civilian casualties were reportedly caused during an exchange of fire between pro-Iranian armed groups attacking the base and the US air defense system responding. Residents expressed concerns about Iraq's situation, which has been transformed into a battleground for major powers.

Iraqi authorities aim to restore national sovereignty and alleviate internal tensions through the withdrawal of international coalition forces. In particular, Iraq seeks to gain full sovereignty over its airspace.

To achieve this, a strategy has been formulated to significantly enhance air defense capabilities and air force within three years, with plans to introduce advanced air defense systems soon to bolster airspace defense. Concurrently with the withdrawal, the US is pressuring pro-Iranian armed groups to either integrate into the military or disband.

He emphasized that this is a final and irreversible decision for the unification of security decision-making and the achievement of full national sovereignty.

Currently, major armed groups are accepting this integration plan, and negotiations are ongoing with remaining factions. Through these measures, Iraq seeks to overcome the scars of civil war and establish national security under the control of a strong central government.
