Mexico Favoured as Tournament Opens in Mexico City
The commentators opened the broadcast at Mexico City Stadium, which was presented as the opener of the first ever 48-team World Cup. They described Mexico as the favourites, ranked 14th in the world, against South Africa, who were ranked 60th in the FIFA World Rankings.
The commentary noted that the stadium had been reimagined after a fresh coat of paint and that the atmosphere would be a major part of the occasion. Mexico were expected to take the initiative, with six of the starting players from the same team at home and several having played together before.
