Reform councillor calls Lib Dem 'gassed' remark 'disgusting'

The meeting had to break for 10 minutes, she recalled, and the conduct continuing during that interval made the whole affair 'mind-blowing' to her. The Lib Dems 'rejected it,' a decision that 'took us all by surprise,' the councillor recalled.

The Reform councillor said one of the Liberal Democrat councillors referred to anyone against illegal migration as being 'happy for them to be gassed.'

She declined to give the exact wording, saying she assumed the interviewer had already seen it.

The words and transcript were in front of her, the host recounted, and she read from the Liberal Democrat councillor's speech. According to the councillor, he was speaking about Reform's proposals and referenced something he had mentioned earlier in the speech.

The example used was an individual who would not have been able to come here, described as a Jewish refugee in the 1930s or 40s. When the man went home, the rest of his family had been 'gassed at Auschwitz,' the councillor recounted, framing the argument as: 'We shouldn't have brought George here.' He should have been left to be gassed in Auschwitz,' the host read. 'And that is not right,' she continued.

After the Liberal Democrat councillor's words, the chamber erupted, according to the host.

In her account, the implication was that people in the room, including the interviewer, would want refugees gassed at Auschwitz. 'Last time I checked, there aren't any gas chambers in Northern France,' she went on to say.

Many residents at the meeting had not experienced a full council before and were horrified by the comments being made, the Reform councillor observed.

Those residents were standing up for what they believe in, the councillor believed, and some could not bring family because only a limited number of spaces were available. They were, she said, 'offended massively.'

Her closing line was that it is possible to be against illegal migration without being 'Nazis, racist, thugs.'
