The upcoming Netflix adaptation of C.S. Lewis's 'The Magician’s Nephew' draws fierce criticism for casting Meryl Streep as Aslan and depicting the character with a rainbow-styled appearance.
He expressed concern about the direction the new Netflix series might take, particularly in light of what he deemed her 'anti-male' film 'Barbie'.
And then I heard that they were hiring Greta Gerwig and that Greta Gerwig was going to be the director after she made the most anti-male movie of all time up to that point, which was called Barbie.
He questioned whether the adaptation intentionally pushes a 'drag' or 'trans' agenda by altering a central figure of Christian allegory. The design has been characterized as 'Rainbow Alan,' fueling concerns among traditionalists.
The decision to cast Meryl Streep to voice Aslan has drawn sharp criticism, with Posobiec highlighting the departure from C.S. Lewis's original intention for the character. Lewis conceived Aslan as a male Christ-figure, making the gender-swap, coupled with the rainbow-colored fur, a focal point of controversy. Critics argue these changes are part of a broader cultural subversion strategy aimed at traditional narratives.
He cited the transformation of the central Narnia character, Aslan, as a deliberate act within this strategy. Aslan has historically served as a Christian allegory, released in the 1950s, upholding values and acting as a beacon of light for many children.
A guest argued that the narrative claiming 'woke is dead' is incorrect, asserting that current projects are driven by ideological subversion rather than profit motives. The guest connected Western civilization with Christendom, stating that these projects aim to subvert and destroy the former because it is synonymous with the latter. Christianity is therefore viewed as the primary target for desecration within this ideological struggle.
C.S. Lewis intended Aslan to be a direct representation, not just a symbolic one, making gender-swapping and rainbow-styling the character blasphemous in this context. These changes are viewed as a direct affront to the theological foundations embedded in Lewis's original work.
This process, he argued, is intended to destroy Christianity and the underlying fabric that has held Western civilization together. He reflected on the significant impact of missionaries in Korea, drawing parallels to the current cultural shifts.
Jack Posobiec criticized modern adaptations for changing chronological settings, such as moving from Victorian London to the 1950s, which results in a loss of thematic weight. He highlighted that these changes disrupt the Christian and Western historical contexts originally intended by C.S. Lewis. Posobiec also pointed out the reliance on modern 'lingo' that contradicts historical settings, contributing to a general criticism of Netflix and Amazon's production haste.
The guest argued that neoconservatives functionally align with leftist ideologies due to their shared essence of egalitarianism, which clashes with traditional conservative principles. Critics claim that proponents of the 'propositional nation'—a concept central to neoconservatism—ignore the significance of genetics and ancestry in national identity. The argument emphasizes that true citizenship requires loyalty and cultural connection beyond mere legal status, a dimension overlooked by egalitarian ideals.
Kangmin Lee asserted that national identity is fundamentally tied to the historical composition of its people, arguing that cultures are a product of the populace. He cited rapidly changing demographics in Texas as an example of how cultural identity shifts with population changes. The guest contended that no one should ever feel like a foreigner within their own nation, emphasizing the intrinsic link between people and national essence.
Jack Posobiec claimed that open discussion is suppressed in America, linking this suppression to mental health issues. Dr. Khloe Carmichael supported this, arguing that the repression of speech leads to internal denial and psychological strain. They identified a 'celebration parallax,' where only positive rhetoric about demographic change is permitted, further stifling honest discussion and leading to widespread internal conflict.
Dr. Khloe Carmichael noted that the traditional 'melting pot' ideal, which encouraged immigrants to assimilate into American culture, is now often dismissed as xenophobic. This shift reflects a decline in the pursuit of assimilation as a positive goal, replaced by concerns about cultural replacement. The changing attitudes make the prospect of cultural replacement feel like an inevitability rather than a debatable policy choice.
It used to be, for example, that immigrants would come here and they would deliberately want to embrace America and to assimilate. And we used to pride ourselves on what we called the melting pot.
The loss of local community structure and identity was attributed to the strain of increased crime and social service demands. This critique extends to universal egalitarianism, which, according to the guest, ignores the tangible decay experienced at the local level.
