Pandemic-era Disney park videos as a window into how designed places work
DeBoer begins with a personal habit from the pandemic. Working from home, he left long 4K walkthrough videos of Disney parks running on a second monitor, which he describes as an open window onto another world.
He says he did not choose these places simply as an escape. As an artist, he saw the parks as clear examples of what happens when art, human experience and emotion are the priorities in designing a place. In the real world, he notes, those priorities are usually the first things cut from budgets, whereas at Disney they are considered essential. He adds that for many people Disney is literally the happiest place on Earth.
