"Historical Justice, Not Money"...Operating the 2nd Investigative Committee

He stated that if problems such as the involvement of pro-Japanese forces occur during the investigation, they will be immediately addressed and monitored.

Representative Lee said, "Because of those parts, we always had significant apprehension when looking at the legal community. I acknowledge that too. However, I believe that it will not come to such problems this time. If problems arise there, we should deal with them, considering it as a part that needs to be addressed."

Representative Lee said, "When the Pro-Japanese Property Reclaiming Revival Act Investigative Committee is launched and we find out that certain properties we genuinely didn't know about were actually pro-Japanese properties, just this fact alone could lead to considerable public enlightenment and awakening."

He announced plans to install information boards or markers at locations where reclaimed property is situated, creating learning spaces where history can be naturally encountered in daily life.

He mentioned that this can be used as an educational project to convey historical lessons to young students and enable them to recognize past history even while passing by.

Representative Lee explained, "If information boards or markers are installed on reclaimed property, people passing by might think, 'Oh, this is what this place used to be,' and learn history in their daily lives. I hope they pay close attention to such aspects as well."

Representative Lee Kang-il pointed out that the sight of pro-Japanese forces who sold out the country and still live well negatively affects future generations.

He emphasized that correcting distorted history is essential to motivate citizens to fight for their country when a national crisis arises in the future.

Representative Lee said, "In the next 50, 100, 200, 500, or a thousand years, times of national crisis will come again. Who will go out and fight when a national crisis arrives? If future generations keep seeing people who sold out the country and colluded with invaders living well, who will fight for the country during a future national crisis?"

As the chairperson of the Special Committee on National Veterans Policy, Representative Lee Kang-il stated that he prioritizes the treatment of those who dedicated themselves to Korea's independence, as well as patriotic martyrs, war veterans, and their families.

He also explained the broad scope of veterans' policy activities, including support for democracy activists who suffered damage during the emergency martial law on December 3.

Representative Lee added, "It's not just about those who worked for our country's independence. It also covers patriotic martyrs who protected our country during difficult times of national crisis, war veterans, and their widows and families. And it also covers democracy activists."

He defined the reality where wealth accumulated through unjust acts by ancestors leads to a privileged life for their descendants, who now live prosperously in society, as the worst form of injustice.

He analyzed that young generations should not be considered behind in historical awareness; rather, they are very sensitive to such issues of injustice.

Representative Lee said, "You should absolutely not think that young people are behind in historical awareness. This issue of pro-Japanese collaboration is a prime example of injustice. Ancestors committed very bad deeds to acquire wealth. That wealth allowed their descendants to live a more privileged life. And now they are living in luxury. It is the worst kind of injustice."

He expressed his hope that a symbolic figure who can spark public interest and unite citizens to participate would become the chairperson.

Representative Lee said, "I think the president will make that choice. He has strongly emphasized historical legitimacy and national legitimacy regarding this matter. In any case, my hope is that the chairperson will be someone who can spark public interest and unite citizens to participate."
