Sanae Takaichi’s Ambitious ¥370 Trillion Investment Roadmap for Japan
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has proposed a radically different plan for Japan, with a central goal of ¥370 trillion in investments by 2040. These investments are slated for diverse sectors including chips, artificial intelligence (AI), defense, food technology, and even manga.
Takaichi believes Japan should stand shoulder to shoulder with other major economies. Her plan comes against a daunting backdrop, as Japan's debt-to-GDP ratio is already the highest among G10 nations. The country also faces significant demographic challenges, including an aging population and a low birth rate.
Furthermore, diplomatic tensions with China are at a low point, and Japanese citizens continue to feel the pain from higher living costs and inflation. These economic pressures present a make-or-break issue for Takaichi's administration as she seeks to revive the world's fourth-largest economy.
